Can We Build A Document Repository To Support Va Claims?

Lots of folks do research for themselves or other veterans they are helping. Doing this research they sometimes end up with documents that may be useful to other veterans.

These documents may be photo's of bases that for example illustrate the conditions, perhaps rooster's or after action reports or any official documents that may help another veteran prove their claim. Not personal identification information.

Do you all think this is worth collecting and making available on HadIt.com? Folks would have to scan their documents in as PDF's and I would have to set up a specific place for them to upload them and categorize them for searchability.

Let me know what you think.

I am writing my memoirs and would love it if you could help a shipmate out and look at it.

I've had a few challenges, perhaps the same as you. I relate them here to demonstrate that we can learn, overcome, and find purpose in life.

The stories can be harrowing to read; they were challenging to live. Remember that each story taught me something I would need once I found my purpose, and my purpose was and is HadIt.com Veterans.

I think perhaps a Wiki format for this would work.

That's an awesome idea. It would definitely help. I know as for myself, sometimes I need to type up a memo or letter but don't know where to start. Once I buckle down and start it, the end result is pretty good. Sometimes though to takes a little time to get myself focused enough to get it done. Letters that others have done would really come in handy at those times. I can also add any that I have done in hopes that it can help someone else get started. Thanks.

I like the idea. If it were searable by each word or phrase, I can see how this would be relevant. The Veteran's Benefit Manual, somewhat does just this, but it includes ONLY precedential CAVC cases, VA fast letters, OIG opinions, and the like and does not include BVA cases or CAVC single judge cases or Writs.

While BVA cases are not precedential, many times within this non precedential case, the BVA cites a CAVC or Federal Circuit opinion to support the Board's conclusion.

Veterans do NOT have access to ALL CAVC case law, there are specific cases cited in the Veterans Benefit Manual which were NOT published (altho it does not give a reason they were not published).

While I can certainly see why a Veteran may NOT want his CAVC (or BVA) case published, I also know that if you are shy and dont want hundreds of eyes peering into your private medical records, then you had better not apply at the VA, because dozens, if not hundreds of people will likely look at your medical records before your case is final.

ok i've got something set up that may work. now for the hard part, adding information. i need some volunteers to help with this. we have to decide what categories and what information we want in the knowledge base. if we have any very organized folks that would be very helpful. if you want to volunteer send me a pm.

A Nexus letter folder would be helpful to many. It could have subfolders for various claims and medical conditions.

Example: HCV, AO, TBI, SMC-L for Aid and Attendance, SMC-M for Housebound, etc. etc.

I have five Nexus letters for HCV; and two Nexus letters for SMC-L for Aid and Attendance.

ASKNOD.ORG has posted several successful Nexus letters; and a couple of articles describing the format, and important information that must be in the Nexus letter.

My request for a Nexus letter from Doctors was denied many times.

But, when I could show a doctor a Nexus letter they were more willing to provide it, or sign it.

Not many Doctors know or understand what it is; and they are very busy.

I wrote all but one of my Nexus letters.

Often a Veterans claim is denied because a C&P exam didn't come back in your favor.

When a Veteran comes back, or appeals with two or three Nexus letter's that support the claim, the claim is successful and granted.

That ole Nexus letter is pretty important.
