Pre 9-11 Marines and Non-combat PTSD

Rate this question

MARINEVET95

Question

Never sought help.

Daily flashbacks, routine nightmares. Physically, teeth are really worn down from the nightmares, dentists always ask me what the hell happened to me;

A Marine rilfleman from the 90s. Unfortunately, the whole tour was undocumented chronic hazing and abuse;

Does the VA recognize ptsd for Marines of our generation?

Is it basically no combat action, no recognition for ptsd?

We don't have the documentation, just honorable discharges and the "change"

TMJ (temporalmandibar Joint syndrome) is due to grinding the teeth and clenching the jaw, and has been secondarily SCed to PTSD  for a few vets here as well as others, per the BVA.

http://www.va.gov/vetapp15/Files4/1537221.txt

This case involves SC of anxiety disorder with subclinical PTSD and the TMJ was found to be secondary too that and the rating schedule for TMJ is in this decision.

Berta,

Thanks for sharing that, it was very enlightening.  I just entered a claim for painful jaw condition.  One of my STRs mentions a 3 finger opening.  However that was in the late '90s.  I can't open far enough now, without pain, for 2 fingers.  And most mornings I have to force my teeth together a few times, to stretch the muscles and realign my lower jaw, so I can chew my food.  This probably also is the source of some of my regular headaches.

Anyway, thanks again for posting that link!

I experienced the aforementioned TMJ as well.  But now it's probably too late for me to prove anything because all my teeth have been pulled.  I simply couldn't take the pain anymore.  However, I don't grind my teeth anymore. ;)
