When should I file Sleep Disorder

Rate this question

Question

I've been seeing my PC and inquired about a previous sleep study I had which exhibited Airway Resistance. He signed me up for another sleep study as mine is old. BUT they are booked until mid September. I have the option to book an appointment with an outside agency but I have to wait a few days before I can do that. I have my previous study and medical records stating daytime fatigue etc. And the Airway Resistance is connected to my Deviated Nasal Septum which my PC notated in my file. I have an appointment with Ear Nose and Throat in two weeks as well. I'm planning on getting documentation from them connecting my sleep issue to my nose.

Should I wait until the next study to start a claim on this or would it be better to start the claim and add it later during the development process. I don't want to wait that long to start a claim when I have the previous sleep study from several years ago which should be enough for evidence of an issue.

Go on E-benefits now and start your claim and then exit and save until you get your documentation.  This preserves your initial claim date for up to a year after you start this process.  apply for it today.

Its really up to you.  You can file and the time starts and add the documents or you can wait and file a fully developed claim, which in some cases is quicker depending on your RO.  Have you had a sleep study done through the VA?  If not I would try and get one there as well so their docs and give probably the same medical opinion as your primary, which helps your cases and you could get a CPAP through the VA free of charge if you need one.

At a minimum you should do an intent to file. You want to get that clock started you can get a bigger pay out in the long run. I wish you good luck on your claim. Bill

(I AM NOT A RATER- I work the claims BEFORE they are rated, annotating medical evidence in your records, VA and Legal documents,  and DA/DD forms- basically a paralegal/vso/etc except that I also evaluate your records based on Caluza and try to justify and schedule the exams that you go to based on whether or not your records have enough in them to warrant those)
