  • Can a 100 percent Disabled Veteran Work and Earn an Income?

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

100% TDIU Not Yet Promulgated, I Need Dental Care

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if anyone will have the answers to this post, but I'll ask anyhow...

BVA granted me 100% TDIU back on Aug. 7 of last year, retro to 2009.  I have the BVA Decision Letter, but the new rating has not yet been put into effect.

I just had a tooth fall apart an hour ago.  It will need a crown at best, or maybe even an implant.  (My civilian dentist saw it coming and told me what was going to happen when he repaired it awhile back.)

Even with my insurance, I'm looking at up to $1,000 or more out of my pocket to repair it.

My questions are:

1.  Should the VA dentist over in Shreveport let me make an appointment and fix my tooth, with no proof of 100% except my BVA Decision Letter?

2.  If I have it done by my civilian dentist, will VA reimburse me for it when my new 100% rating goes into effect?

3.  If they will reimburse it, will they also reimburse other dental expenses back to my retro Effective Date of 2009?

Try the letter...Im unaware of VA reimbursing dental expenses.  Be happy if they will treat you, dont expect the whole farm, too.

Thanks, I really didn't think they'd spring for a dental emergency such as this, it isn't like a medical emergency situation.  I will call them tomorrow and try the letter, I'll never know unless I ask.

If you were awarded the IU Aug 7th 2018 of last year  you should have got all your letters and EOB's

Chck with IRIS  or look on e benefit's and print off your EOB Letters.

The BVA Letter should work check the dates on it  but 6/7 months since   you been awarded  something don't seem right  here? that you don't have all your explanation benefit letters?

Usually if its not an emergency  the dental clinic will have you come in and get a evaluation  consult.

I had a tooth broken and was in Pain  but they sent me to the evaluation consult after a couple days from calling them..I went to the consult Friday and now waiting on the appointment for extraction of my tooth  its the right front tooth (3 weeks out) for the appointment.

so will need partials remade.  or go around looking like Billy Bob From the Hatfield's and McCoys

Seems like my VAMC Dental Clinic take there ever loving time to see a Veteran/no matter about pain... & we need to be 100% or IU to use the VA Dental Clinic  but a Veteran can pay to have a tooth extraction  they do not do cosmetic repairs.  (As for as I know they don't)

    • Type 1 Diabetes recent onset!
I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in September 2017 OUT OF NOWHERE.

i am a Navy Reservist and deployed in later 2009 to mid 2010 and again later 2014 to mid 2015; had a 2 year recall between those deployments.

Only healthcare received since commissioning in 2008 was from the Navy and no issues EVER.

insulin dependent and have dietary restrictions and in a non deployable status.

VA denied initial claim due to Type 1 not showing on active duty and now appealing.

Anyone with successful experience getting a rating with my circumstances?  I live in Upstate New York.

    • Agent Orange Kadena Afb Okinawa
I am looking for anyone who was on Kadena AFB, Okinawa or .Chanute AFB, IL. My dad was there from Oct. 68-April 70. He has ichemic heart disease, diabetes which has resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee and peripheral neuropathy. We were denied in 2002 AMVETS filed a claim on his behalf for heart condition, diabetes and back problems. I refiled in December 2011 and have just received the claim statements and medical release forms. I am familiar with filling out this paper work because my husband is a combat veteran of Iraqi Freedom. I have been reading articles from the Japan times and I am a member of the Agent Orange Okinawa facebook page. Another thing that helps make my dad's case is that he was on Chanute AFB, IL and it is on the EPA Superfund list and has PCBs/Pesticides and Dioxins/Furans listed as ground and water contaminants. I welcome any advice, tips or articles that I may have missed in my own research.

    • Appeal granted and closed.
My appeal was granted and closed on November 9.  I got an unofficial notification from the DAV on November 15 stating "appeal granted with an evaluation of 30%" which is great!  My question is this:  How long until I get the official notification from the va? Nothing on ebennies has updated since the appeal closed. Appeal is now in historical and just says complete and at originating va office. I understand no one knows va timelines to a tee but a general timeline would be great.  Thank you all! Hope you have a Merry Christmas!

Edit:  This was my first time appealing and it was a VBA grant.
