    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

What does "Compensation Issue" term mean??

ed33

Question

Hi everyone,

So my appeal was closed on July 15. I haven't received my letter yet but under the issues tab on va.gov, where it used to say the items i was appealing, it now says "compensation issue." Is that normally what it says just when they close the review? Has anyone seen any other terminology in that section?

Thanks for your input.

I would call the BVA today and see what the status of your appeal is and let them know you have not received anything yet.  They are not typically that slow at sending a completed appeal out.

Thanks for the input. Have you ever seen that term before under the issues tab? I can't really tell if its good or bad. kind of depending on how you read it i guess

Compensation issue simply mean your claim is for disability compensation as opposed to some other kind of claim Maybe upgrade for discharge for example. Most claims that are submitted are designated ci. Nothing to worry about.

I had the same thing, the Va accepted my claim on 07/20/20 and closed the supplemental claim on 07/24/20. This is my 2nd supplemental claim with and medical opinion that my attorney had got to help with the increase of PTSD from 50 to 70 resulting in IU. I am really confused though. so did they close the claim meaning they denied it again or what? If anyone has any feedback, let me know.

I found out when the supplemental claim is closed again you have reopen it for a higher review. It appears that the VA didn't even look at it according to my lawyer. In other words, total discounting new evidence and the medical opinion. so why are they working in the claims department if that are going to pass the buck again.

If your lawyer felt they totally disregarded your new evidence-meaning they ignored it completely  ( and if it was received  timely by VA -there are deadlines for almost everything, ) and VA also disregarded your medical opinion, then the lawyer could pursue a CUE in the appeal period.

That tactic has worked for many here (including me)

HRL has been pretty good at finding CUE prior to a decision being made, since the regulations changed re: HRL but your lawyer can file ASAP as well.

I have plenty of info on that in our CUE forum. The M21-1MR change is there as well.

My claim for migraines closed on June 11, ebenny’s reads “compensation issue” and migraines was missing . I called the 1800, they said it was mailed out and expect it within 7-10 days.  They also  said if I don’t receive it in 11 days - call back and they will email, fax or send it again  to me. I made them put it in my call notes ( whether they did or not) we’ll see. I will call tomorrow and see if they will actually email it.

they also closed my FOIA Claim from Jan. On the 16th. Have not received that yet either.

Bionic Vet  Standard procedure with the VA. They won't tell you anything at 800-827-1000 until 10 weekday workdays have gone by. Call on the tenth day and ask for the re-send; they will email (or fax) a copy to you within minutes. So I would be calling today, the 10th work day. The mail delivery is really bad now days; it takes about 3 weeks from the date of the letter to actually received the mailed copy. AS for your FOIA, send in an IRIS report https://iris.custhelp.va.gov/ and request response in writing. Good luck.

Tony M Welcome to Hadit. If you use the prev button  at the bottom of the thread you will see the answer ex. 6/25/21. Now, when the VA acknowledges you have an appeal, they just give the lame status as "comp issue." No explanation, no real useful status update.  They won't tell you anything on the site until you receive your decision letter. If you call "Peggy" at 800-827-1000, you may gleam a little knowledge depending on how you ask the info. Ask questions as "did the C&P exam get posted yet from the contractor that did the exam? Is it being worked at your Regional Office (RO), or where? Does it show I have to have an additional C&P exam? But mostly, you won't find out anything useful on status. The the VA Way.

Danny grip Welcome to Hadit. Best thing to do is is to copy the part you are questioning and submit it on this thread so we can see the wording. Be sure to redact any of your personal info like name, etc. before you do.
