Do any of you guys know the correct form to file for my spouse? A&A.

I have the 22-5490 form  but it say its for

''Dependents Application For VA Education Benefit's''  7 PAGES  Not counting the proper  R.O. to send it to  which is the Western  Region Muskogee Oklahoma 74402-8888

We are going to file for her A&A Benefit's being I am 100%P&T.

she can get her Dr to write her a letter  she uses two MD's  one his her regular PCP And the other Dr is her specialist Pain Dr..both have render her totally disabled.

Were going to try to get her a part of the A&A.  We should have did this a few years ago   Just found out about her eligibility.  eh!

Beings I get SMC S and SMC K Not sure we or she qualifies.  but she is totally disabled and we need the extra help.

Anybody know the correct form to file for this?  is it the  va 22-5490??

My spouse needs help cooking /eating someone to help her get dressed and help bath her I help all I can but I am not a cook, I help her in her wheel chair and fetch stuff for her but it would be better if we had a person come in and help.

she is not bedridden but needs to be , her Dr tells her not to do much & always ask for help  ect,,,ect,,,

I Deal with my disabilities the best I can And try to help her   she is not blind  but its like the blind leading the blind around here...  if my spouse was a Veteran she would be 100%P&T With SMC L-1.  she has  severe chronic profound physical disabilities as well as mental disabilities/depression.

she barely can walk maybe 10 ft or get out of her wheel chair   she is in constant chronic pain    pain level  # 100

She has Osteoporosis and DJD, Very bad in both knees and her back is very bad upper and lower  eat up with osteoporosis and R.A.

within the last 4 or 5 years or so broke her arms /wrist and both legs

She has Heart problems  had a triple heart by pass in 2005 VA Did the surgery, )

she has firbro very bad all over, has had back surgeries Dr's say her spine is like mush  not much els they can do...

and she  has fell and broke both arms both legs and just recently (Oct 3rd) fell and broke her right hip in two places.still recovering from that  she is trying  in home rehab but its not working to well, .last couple years or so  ago she was hospitalized  for Pneumonia and an inner infection on top of the Pneumonia  And C.H.F. Almost lost her in 2017

CHF is  (Congested Heart Failure)

she is absolutely falling apart at age 65

she has had cataract eye surgery in both eyes about 6 months ago and has been diagnose with Adult Memory Problems.2 years ago.

She has other disabilities but these I mention is the worse.

Her Dr has said she needs to be in bed most of the time but she is trying her heart out not to be bedridden and she says she is not giving up  she will fight to her last breath to walk and do the things she wants to do.  her dream.

A and A is an "upgrade" from housebound.  While its true you cant get both, A and A is more than housebound.  Now, I admit I really dont get this A and A for a Veterans spouse..its not much but I think I posted the correct form.

I dont know, but I think a Veteran can be housebound and his spouse need A and A.

Thanks Broncovet, I might check at the DAV office and ask them about it?beings their listed as my POA

I am not trying to get it for myself  just for my spouse  but I understand they give it to the Veteran for the spouses benefit? and just add what ever extra  to my check each month?

If they approve her claim for A&A will I need a C&P? OR DO THEY GO BY THIS FORM AS TO WHAT SHE FILLS OUT? 21-2680

i KNOW SHE HAS TO PUT MY INFORMATION ON IT AND ALL MY S.C. DISABILITIES AND MY DD 214 ALL THAT  its on the form  but most of it is about her medical information and looks like a Dr needs to fill it out? ON THE 21 -2680

If you get A and A for spouse, expect it to be added to your check, not a seperate one for her, not that it matters too much.  If you look at the compensation rate tables, it shows under the Veteran (see the item at the very bottom of the "box" in the charts:

https://www.benefits.va.gov/compensation/resources_comp01.asp

Read:  Footnote B, in the chart, above.

I don't understand this (b) footnote   for 70%veteran it says add 111.00 additional  for A&A  with two minor children?

This hard to understand  I don't think my DAV guy will know.

IF they approve her for A&A and me being 100& P&T Then if she is approve for A&A  Then add the ??  the 158.00???  why does it say the total amount payable is 1,807.17???

''Where the veteran has a spouse who is determined to require A/A, add the figure shown as "additional for A/A spouse" to the amount shown for the proper dependency code. For example, veteran has A/A spouse and 2 minor children and is 70% disabled. Add $111.00, additional for A/A spouse, to the rate for a 70% veteran with dependency code 12, $1,696.17. The total amount payable is $1,807.17.''

He SHOULD know, VSOs have to be trained at VA before becoming VSOs. They don't just volunteer for the job.

Veteran (you, 100%)

In the example footnote you have 2 children and a spouse that needs AA.

You, spouse, 1 child =1636

+ 60 for additional child under 18 yrs old = 1696

+ the Additional amount for your spouse being AA

111.00

= 1807 - ish.

All based on the rating table for Vet with dependents.
