New Question On Champva

Rate this question

JohnM

Question

I know that this is going to be a dump question, and probably know the answer but thought I would check it out anyways,

John recieved the letter from champva yesterday, two forms to fill out.

The forms he recieved is Champva- other health insurance ( ohi) certification.

Is this the complete form or is there another one?

Being that he recieved two, does this mean the Veteran is also covered by Champva also?

And please tell me if it is worth wild to drop my other insurance coverage, which we care from where John was working. I am so scared of how much insurance is costing us now days I for sure do not want John or myself with out insurance, especially the way medical expenses are costing.

Thanks in advance,

We are going to enjoy some of this big money we got and go to Florida. Made reservations at Shades of Green Resort. Has anyone stayed there? What is it like?

ChampVA by itself has pretty big copays and in my opinion works best with other insurance. It requires a 25% copay unless you get treatment at a VA and than there is no copay.

At each VAMC there is someone who can help you with forms ect. If you are healthy and the other insurance is expensive than dropping would make sense. My wife has Medicare and with ChampVA except for $ 50 deductible every year and copays for Meds we pay nothing.

Good Luck

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

Uhh.. well sorry Pete but I have to ask I thought the copay is 20%... I'm pretty sure (now darn it you have me questioning myself... how the heck do you DO that!)...(or at least it has been for my family) there is a $50 individual deductible (as you stated) and a $100 family for inpatient care. I have never used it at a VAMC, and dont intend to, from what I have seen most doctors who take TriCare, Champus, also take ChampVA. Further I think that most phamacies do very well at billing etc.

The only problem I have encountered is the billing done for lab work.... again and again ChampVA seems to screw it up... but nothings perfect I suppose.

I do agree that a supplemental policy is a good thing even though there is a $3000 catastophic gap. Mines is thru RAUS, and its $54 dollars a month but I dont pay a ppenny for anything but it, and my doctors file it along with the ChampVA...(pharmacies as well, I use Rite Aid, but Freds and Walgreens also are fine), so Im only out of pocket the monthly fee.

All in alll I have been pleasently suprised by ChampVA... essentially it reminds me of TriCare standard....

What I am saying is that ChampVA, Champus, and TriCare standard all seem pretty much the same from what I have seen...

http://www.shadesofgreen.org/home.html Very nice, you definitely want to get your attraction tickets there. They have a very long waiting list for reservations. They will use other Disney locations if you ask for over-flow. They also have some availabilities at Ft Wilderness, both cabins and RV spots.

IC/1 Navy, 100% Schedular + SMC, Shellback, Blue Nose, Crossed International Dateline and Prime Meridian.

II Corinthians 5:17 "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

Well this is.. bizaree... post are being spawned into unrelated topics... but... I have reservations for a weeks stay at Port Orleans - French Quarter from 25th March thru the 1st. We went back at Thanksgiving and did the same deal. I really reccomend the dining plan... we kept our receipts from the last trip and compared it to the cost of the dining plan, and if you aren't going to be cooking your own food, well its a heck of a good deal even if it seems pricey up front wait till you drop $45 for a fast food meal for three....

some of the things/attractions you might want to book into

Hoop De Doo Review... its hokey but fun..

if you have littles then there tons of "character" dining we've eaten dinner in the castle 3 times now... they do a dinner show and its nice

I suggest you book you dining reservations in advance if possible, but even if you dont they are really nice about trying to get you into what you want to see...

I can actually go on for hours... dont miss the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom... is fantastic... same with Pocahontas... its mainly for little but man can that lady sing!

Of course "Wishes" fireworks display every night at Magic Kingdom... I am thrilled every single time...

Epcots fireworks and fire show is killer...

honestly theres just too much. I hope you enjoy.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

    • Caluza Triangle defines what is necessary for service connection
Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:
