Screen - Horizontal Bar

I kinda like ME, but XP is much better. I have a Nvidia GeForce 5200 card in this computer that I have built. This Nvidia card has a program that installs the card and any monitor. When I go to the settings click the advanced tab the Nvidia settings box comes up. In the Nvidia box there are 6 tabs. One of the tabs is for troubleshooting. I am using a syncmaster (Samsung) 192N monitor. I remember that the TNT2 had its own setting box.

I have had the problem that you are talking about before, but I just can not remember what it was. Once there was a bent pin on the monitor plug which was grounding out on the plug. This bent pin was caused from plugging the monitor in and out on so many different test compters. Another time it was simply adjusting the monitor height or width. One person had dragged the start bar up half way into his screen blancking out about 25% of his screen.

I have helped out all I can. Wish Dawson was here. Last resort take it to a computer repair store.

Excerpt from the 'Declaration of Independence'

We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity

Someone told me to get a new graphics card/video card.

AGP. Does this sound correct? And if so, what do I look for in a graphics card?

The native resolution of the BenQ monitor you have is 1024 x 768 (75hz) so that is what it should run at. You can find the tech. specs here:

http://tinyurl.com/bammw

The video card you have is already 4X AGP, and should function fine. It is LIKELY that you need a new driver, for either the monitor or the video card. Since I assume the card worked fine with a previous monitor, then you may need an ME driver for the monitor.

On the other hand, a quick search on the net shows that that is an old card, that originally only supported Win 98 and Windows 2000, with no mention of Windows ME.

A new card does not have to cost a fortune, but still I'd try to find an ME driver first since that won't cost anything.

I am now looking at video or graphics cards and am stuck on the meaning of 8x and 4x.

The card I have now is a 4x.

Can I get/put in an AGP card that is 8x?

The number is the basic speed of the slot. AGP was originally set up to be faster than PCI, I dont't remember by how much. 4X and 8X simply mean 4/8 times faster than the original AGP

slot.

They are ALL supposed to be backward compatible, but if the slot on the motherboard is 4X, why waste the extra dollars on an 8X, unless you expect to upgrade the motherboard in the future.

Have you tried looking for a driver for the card, for ME? Just go to Google and type 'video card drivers' and you'll find lots of sites. Scroll down to the bottomof the page and click on 'search within results' then type in the designation of your video card. Some of the sites will automatically scan the card, and tell you if there is a valid driver available.

Thank you for the reply.

Very helpful.

I emailed one of the manufacturers of video/graphics cards asking for a recommendation. They email back:

"What is your power supply?"

I don't have a clue what this means. Is there an easy way to find what my power supply is on my Dell ME?

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
