ptsd Vietnam Vets 'pass On Mental Problems'
Vietnam vets 'pass on mental problems' Vietnam veterans are passing on post traumatic stress disorder to their children and grandchildren in the form of behavioural and anxiety disorders, a university academic says. Queensland University of Technology PhD student Ken O'Brien said not enough research had been done on how the traumas of war were being passed on to children via parenting styles, social factors and even genetics. Mr O'Brien, who is from the university's School of Social Change Research and is the son of a Vietnam veteran, is studying the phenomenon, which he says is widespread. He said it was causing attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism…

What Other Obscure Tests Are Being Done
Hmmm. I wonder what other obscure tests are being done. Specifically, my primary care provider referred me to a psychiatrist upon my initial visit to a new clinic. I had to wait for about 2 months to see him. This psychiatrist started asking questions about my 100% rating which struck me as odd. What was the reason for the rating, etc. When I asked him about his full time job, he told me was a civil servant for the VA. I asked him if he worked in mental health at the medical center and he said no. He never told me where he worked and what his job was!!! Seemed mighty curious to me. B)

Can Va Comp Effect Future Employment?
I have a quick question...I am getting ready to go to a physical exam for VA Comp...I am active duty, getting ready to retire with 23 years in. If you get a rating for a condition, can it effect your employability in the civilian sector? Say a 10% for lower back pain...Can this affect me when I go to apply for a job as a civilian? If I can not get a job after the military the 10% is not much help, I will not put in for it... Thanks in advance Don't know if this post has been covered or I am in the right forum....thanks

Va Tested Me With Out Telling Me..
I requested a copy of my VA records and discovered that the VA did a drug / alcohol test with my urine sample. When they asked for the sample saying it was just for routine tests. I guess I should have asked more probing questions. I have just started using the VA Med center and MH section for depression, they all always ask me if I do drug or alcohol now or in the past. I keep telling them NO, and it isn't compatable with my MEDs. Anyway the test results were negative. I guess if they catch a Vet in a lie they will take anything else you say with a gain of salt. Joe

Housebound Benefits
Anyone know what the housebound benefit codes mean on the schedule of benefits and compensation. I noticed that there are a few different columns and that they have letters over top of them IE L, L 1/2, M, M 1/2 etc.. I would be classified in the Veteran with one dependent column but, I am not sure which column i would fall in to. Anyone know how they figure that out for special monthly compensation.

Tracking My Varo's Monday Morning Reports
Since filling my claim, I have been tracking the data on Detroit VARO's Monday Morning Reports (Ratings Pending). There seems to be a clustering or clump of new casses the first week of every month. I wonder if this indicates that they are letting new stuff build up and putting it in the system late or if VSO's are batching stuff (working on claims all month and pushing them out the last day or two of a month)? I would think this surging would effect work process, and was curious if anyone has any insight as to why it occurs? Inquiring minds want to know???

Va Does Compensation Date Begin At The Onset Of Condition
I am in one of those rare moods today so I have a question. If the VA doctor determines that the veterans condition is clearly caused by a service connected incident and that the condition was NOT in no way pre existing prior to entering the military and that after military service that there is no incidents that would have caused the condition (va grants s/c). How would the VA determine the date of compensation if the VA doctor states that the condition is chonic and the injury began at the time of the occurace and was not detected at time of discharge because there was no out processing physical or evaluations. that is my question. mt
