Navy04
If it could linked to a certain attack or location, sure. I have medals and ribbons from Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, letters from your buddies or officers would help too.
HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted December 7, 2013 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted December 7, 2013 If you have a PH, CIB, bronze star with V that would validate a stressor. Any combat ribbon or medal would validate a stressor, but you don't even need those to get a DX of PTSD anymore. You just need a VA shrink to say you have it. If you have any reasonable story that indicates you had reason to be in fear of enemy contact that's enough these days. wablackwell and Fco75th25div
Fco75th25div
Yes, that's how I did it, linked the PH, and Bronze w/Vdevice and Army Com with/V device to the Battle called out on the same day by all awards. So the Army wrote the Stressor as a matter of Record. I never wrote a stressor, simply talked about the Battles. etc etc...
HadIt.com Elder Philip Rogers Posted December 9, 2013 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted December 9, 2013 They could, depending on what they are. Valor medals, PH, CIB & CAR, are basically the ones that qualify. pr
Whirly Bird
Also, not sure what your MOS was, but for helicopter Gunners like me, the Marine Corps gave us Combat Aircrew Insignia (wings) with up to 3 gold stars depending on how many combat missions were flown. The Combat aircrew insignia carries the same weight as the Combat Action Ribbon (CAR) that the ground pounders were given. Both awards qualify as proof of combat for PTSD stressor verification. Here is the complete list of awards that qualify: When a Veteran has received any of the combat decorations listed below, VA will presume that the Veteran engaged in combat with the enemy, unless there is clear and convincing evidence to the contrary: Air Force Achievement Medal with “V” Device Air Force Combat Action Medal Air Force Commendation Medal with “V” Device Air Force Cross Air Medal with “V” Device Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device Combat Action Badge Combat Action Ribbon (Note: Prior to February 1969, the Navy Achievement Medal with “V” Device was awarded.) Combat Aircrew Insignia Combat Infantry/Infantryman Badge Combat Medical Badge Distinguished Flying Cross Distinguished Service Cross Joint Service Commendation Medal with “V” Device Medal of Honor Navy Commendation Medal with “V” Device Navy Cross Purple Heart, and/or Silver Star. Important: Receipt of one of the decorations cited above is not the only acceptable evidence of engagement in combat.
