Hello everyone,
I just had my initial consult for sleep apnea.  I havnt had the sleep study performed yet but I did get these numbers from the initial questionnaire:
Berlin Questionnaire: POSITIVE (+++)
Epworth Sleepiness Scale: 9/24
Fatigue Severity Scale: 42/63
Insomnia Severity Index: 18/28
Based on these results and suspicion for sleep disordered breathing, an
oligosomnogram was ordered. Sleep Clinic follow-up scheduled in ~6 months.
 
I wasn't diagnosed with any sleep issues while I was active but when I was explaining to my PTSD therapist about how I was having issues sleeping she stated that it seems like I have insomnia and possibly a major sleep apnea issue.  My wife had to wake me up several times a night when shes home due to either snoring or breathing issues.  My question to you guys is what would be the best way to put a claim in for sleep apnea?  Should I do the secondary issue and attach it to my ptsd (rated at 50%)?  this will be only my second claim and I want to make sure I do it right.  Please help me

I received my decision last night. 50% PTSD and depressive disorder for a total of 60%. Thank you guys for the encouragement. Now how do I find out what the effective date is? They reopened my case so it should go all the way back to February of 2014 due to my first claim being a fully developed claim. They also added my wife as a dependent which is a good thing. Thank you guys very much!!!

It was the new claim the DAV filed instead of the a cue or reconsideration. It's almost done. That's the reason I got a new c&p exam

After Im done filling it out, im gonna post it so you guys can take a look at it.  That way I know I have the best chance.  Learned more and gotten better advice here then my VSO could do

Pete992, thank you, so he would send his claims info to the center in Janesville, WI, is that correct? I knew they did have two different intake centers at one time, wasn't certain what had happened.

Yes, What I have done in the past was to send my evidence to GA and then to WI but I would add an ATTN: line to my local VARO, of course signature required and proof of delivery.

I'm learning how to do it. I will have to find my printer/scanner and get it up and running. I still need to post my original decision paperwork as well. And I'm not using a vso right now. The one I used came highly recommended and I was not impressed. I could have done what they did on my own and honestly done a better job. I'm going to type up my NOD tonight and mail it off in the morning certified so they can't screw me on that aspect. Where can I find the address to mail it too? I'm in Georgia and I don't know who to send it to

The claim that the VSO filed as a new claim instead of a reconsideration is at the preping for decision part of the claim since friday.  How long does it normally take for a claim to hit the decision phase in a case like mine?

I think you are right!  I will look at my C&P exam when I am back home. I'm traveling until Thursday.  But yes I got an increase!

You deserve everything brother. I won't look down on you and if anyone does let me know.  I am the king of avoidance and I believe that if you have the courage to get help then get help

This means that VA will grant your claim but there is no way of knowing what your rating percentage will be.

i didn't have time to complain. I got out 35 days after our return to Pendleton. I also didn't think I had any issues either until it was pointed out to me by someone I respected and served with 

Commander Bob got his foot blown off in Vietnam and the VA denied his PTSD claim the first time.  He prevailed in the end.  The VA said he never complained about PTSD while he was in the Army.  He went straight from Nam to the hospital to ETS.  When did he have time?  They call it "Post" TSD which means after.  There are WW11 vets who have PTSD and are still dealing with it.  The VA just wants to save money off your back.   Since you are a smart guy and came to hadit you will win in the end.   Pity the poor dumb azzes who take the denial and just go away.

I know I just hate red tape. But I know it's a process and I just have to keep fighting. I'm thankful I realized I was truly having issues before something bad happened like another divorce or losing my job

Thanks everyone. Andy we all have that voice inside that instillation doubt in us and our abilities. To quote my platoon Sgt " tell that voice of doubt to shut the xxxx up and grab a rifle, only then will it know what's going" and your family will never understand but you have a new family that encompasses every man and woman that has ever worn the uniform.
