A yup, Jim/Manitou; contractors, outsourcing, once heard many hands make light work, hrumpf, my concern too many cooks spoil the batter! Ok, meanwhile, I got a good feeling its gonna work out best as possible for each of us.

Celebrating Jim again, doing the Hokey Pokey! Hope you have applied and get all your state benefits as possible. Always good to get licenses, auto&fishing, tax benefits, or any support possible. Speaking of taxes, retro in '07 causes a bit of adjustment to pay, less taxes monthly that is! yay. best t'ya! cg

Kind of interesting how contractors have taken over so many of the jobs previously done by soldiers or civil service employees--at least in the Army. With regard to the active Army and DFAS-related activities, many/most of the old soldiers with institutional knowledge and a professional lifetime of learning the ins and outs of the various pay systems were not replaced once they separated or retired (I was one of them, 23 yrs Army finance corps). Now you have people who are hired by the contractors, who have basically no prior knowledge of military or retired pay...

Just a comment...

For my children, my God sent husband and my Hadit family of veterans, I carry on.

God Bless A m e r i c a, Her Veterans and their Families!

Jim great job. DFAS is a little slow however, once they send it back to VA the retro seems to come pretty quick. To use a VA quote "more than likley" your retro will all come from VA since they are the ones who with held the money. Normally not a DFAS problem until you get a back-dated 100 percent rating. At that point both DFAS and the VA would owe you some retro.

It amazes me that DFAS is still having the same problem. I guess it is job security for Lockheed-Martin guys by not fixing the problem. You know during my life time of military service DFAS never had a problem updating their computer systems to meet the changing demands placed upon them. As a result I never ever had a pay problem. I was a good boy though and did what I was told to do. Seemed as though the only ones, THAT I KNOW OF, that ever had pay problems was the bad boys.

Manitou - I contribute my successful record of getting my green stuff on time every month to dedicated guys like you. Not only did you guys know your jobs, you were dedicated soldiers, that cared about the soldiers you support. My hat is off to you and those like you. Now for these contractors that seem to be squeezing their way into the system, well I can not say much for them. I have spoken to some of them about my retired pay a couple of times - they did not seem to know what the heck I was talking about nor what the problem was. The worst of it though was they appeared to really not give a damn. Well I guess not all change is good. Just hate to see it in the finance field cause when a soldier is out jumping over IED's he/she truly does not need the worry of his family not eating because some idiot contractor messed up his pay and then really don't care if the family starves. His/her only concern is his pay check pops into the bank so he can go catting on Friday night.

outsourcing - just hope it does not come to the point that when a soldier calls about his pay he has to learn a foreign language inorder to be able to speak to a lady in Bangladesh about his military pay! <_<

Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
