Has Anyone Seen This?

Recommended Posts

Maurice, you asked,

Hello How much will they paid me for a 35 round trip to the VAMC.? I'm 60% DAV

i drive 36 miles to the detroit VAMC (one way). i got a routing slip from the receptionist at optometry. (where my appointment was)

took it down to travel, and that's when they told me i would not get the $7.26 i usually get, but $1.26 because of this new deductible.

i cannot get even a half gallon of gas with that money, i felt like i had been slapped. since it is the end of the month, i have NO money!

gathered together all returnables, and my $1.26, and got two dollars worth of gas. damn, i was sick with worry about making it home on gas fumes and my head hurt so bad, i was near tears.

wings, i see that you posted all the relevant stuff. i will try to read it more closely. why am i being charged to defray the cost of veteran's transportation, when I am the transportation?!?! my county veterans office has a van, but they cannot 'guarantee' i will make any morning appointments, and the guy leaves the VA hospital at 1500 hrs, so any afternoon appointments worry me too. (making the ride back).

sorry just venting, i know this is not YOUR idea!

on another note, my DAV rep has his office in the VAMC. i sat outside his office from 11:am to 1530 just to get a chance to talk to him about filing for TDIU. he told me he had to leave, i could not make an appointment, and i have to be outside his office at 0600 - 0630 and expect to wait all day. i am tired and feel hopeless.

Wouldn't be better to just build or rent clinic space for basic treatments rather than have one big VAMC that thousands of vets have to drive miles and miles to get to for treatment? They could just rent space in my part of town and take a big load off the VAMC. Where I go for treatment there is no parking at all.

Hi John,

I'm having that issue right now - I'm crippled up with rheumatoid arthritis, single parent, and 100% svc connected. I have to drive 82 miles to see my PCP, the closer clinics won't see me - well they will, but one test I need regularly has to be done in KCMO 135 miles away. At least the PCP I see (in the wrong VAMC) will order the test so I can have it done locally. I'm in SE KS and the closest VA hospital is Fayetteville, AR - 98 miles to see a specialist!! I also have issues with going to KCMO alone - it ain't in the best part of town for a female, alone in Raytown.

At the VA hospitals back east, I've seen the drug reps (multiple times) pull into VA handicapped parking places - one gal even had a disability placard and walked in just fine. I went to report it to security - they sent me to the PR, I got no where.

And....we in this county have to drive 35 miles in order to get van transport to the hospital in KC or Wichita. The VFW here is not a bunch of youngins and can't qualify with the stiffer driver health regulations to get a transport van - the DAV doesn't exist here. So sad to see our local unit vets come home to nothing! BTW, we aren't even in the approved trial area to qualify for the new HERO, Humana Vet care.

Keep your chin up

Maurice, you asked,

You don't have to talk to this guy because you can get the form for TDIU and send it to your regional office. By completing this form you get the process started and establish an effective date; the day you file the claim. You can get the TDIU form online by going into VA forms And type in TDIU or individual unemloyability. I wish you well.

These products do not do what they claim to do. No $ saved using them. The oly one who gets $ is the person who sells these gadgets.

Keep tires inflated, drive speed limit or little less, no jack rabbit starts/stops. Keep windows closed and air on,(windows open slow down car airflow), keep trunk empty as weight there decreases gas mileage too. Don't have luggage or tow things on roof, slows down airflow and decreases mileage too. Keep car tuned up, oil changes on time, other maintenance, air filter changes too. No need to use premium gas regular or medium grade good.

And getting back to your comment on mileage rates from VA you know as of Feb 1st 2008,they changed from 11 cents per mile to 28.5 cents per mile. First raise in 30 tears. BUT also the deductible went up from $6.00 round trip to $15.54 round trip. With the maximum of $46.62 deductible per month( that equals 3 round trips, so if you have 4 or more in one month, they just take out for the first three)

A vet can ask for the deductible to be waived if it will cause a financial hardship, but I have yet to see anyone get it at my VAMC yet. The P.A. has yet to see one get it here either, yet.

Remember VA pays zip code to zip code to CLOSEST VA. I choose one in my state, and get paid to go to the closer one in another state. ( I go 135 miles one way, started there in 1985, never got mileage before. They pay for the one 120 miles away.)

now a days so many products are available in the market. But all the products do not give good millage for that products so customer take care and know the full details of that product i cannot get even a half gallon of gas with that money, i felt like i had been slapped. since it is the end of the month, i have NO money!gathered together all returnables, and my $1.26, and got two dollars worth of gas. damn, i was sick with worry about making it home on gas fumes and my head hurt so bad, i was near tears.we have buy the product and then we know the condition of that product it is waste and money is also waste.

The only gas saving device I've ever seen work is a block of wood attached to the backside of the gas pedal.
