Trying To Find A Doctor...

Sigh.

After many recommendations from the friendly folks here, and our own "had it" moments with the VA docs, we decided to bite the bullet and really start looking for a doctor who will take care of us and write the letters we need for the VA.

So far... 2 out of 3 that I've called aren't taking patients. The 3rd one's office person said she'd need to take all my information and submit it to the office manager for approval before she could make an appointment. I said before I waste a bunch of her time, I wanted to ask whether the doctor (well established family practice guy) would write letters if requested. She got all bunch and said she didn't know the answer to that question. I asked her if she could find out, and she said she was very busy...

I don't think I want to go to that place any way. We need to be approved? Criminy, whatever happened to just asking for insurance info?

I know I've only called 3 places, but I'm getting very bummed already.

Keep trying you will find one. Usually the Docs who are willing to write medical opinions are known to Social Security Lawyers and next time you call tell the person you talk to that you want a Doc who will take care of you and also willing to help with medical documentation for your claim.

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

Pete, thanks. I finally called an Occupational Health place that does pre-employment evaluations & Workman's Comp exams. The office lady said to bring all my records and that if I had a form for the Dr. to fill out, or a format for him to follow, he might be able to do it for me.

Insurance won't cover a visit to him, and it's $150.00. If I can't find anyone else, it would be a good investment, right? He is a board certified, full blown MD, so his statement should carry weight, right?

I forgot to ask...

It's been so long since I've been shopping for a doctor... is it typical for them to want to take all your info and then you have to wait to be "approved" before they'll take you as a patient? It got my back up when I was told that, but I'm a bit tetchy...

I guess that they can make their own rules. I would hold them till I gave up on getting a regular Doc.

I spent almost 2 years trying to find a Doc but in the end I asked my friends and finally got a good recommendation> Maybe Hadit should consider keeping a Doc List with comments.

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

where so you live?

I put up the name and address (in these forums under the IME section) of a occupation med place that spedcialiazes in finding doctors to do IMO/IME.. But, this is for Southern california.. Also, it was $1,600 for a 2 hours visit. I gave the doctor copies of my records, she examined me and sent me a report 2 months later. I then had it submitted with my appeal.

Not in appeals, since I got 100%, and some of it was winning an 1151 negligence, which the VA turns out does not give ful benefits if you win 1151 negligence they squirm and legal loophhole you and your family out of many benefits, really crapp nasty bunch running the va benefits, they wil backstab and scre wyou even if you win you lose. May 2021.

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)
      This case established that for secondary service connection claims, the primary service-connected disability does not need to be service-connected or diagnosed at the time the secondary condition is incurred 1.     • Are all military medical records on file at the VA?

      RichardZ posted a topic in How to's on filing a Claim,

      I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

      VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.  

      They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.  

      This is not true, 

      Proof:  

          About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends. 

          Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken. 

          A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did. 

          I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
