Actually you put that down when you registered.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

Seagull,

Regarding your question, you do not have to have a current diagnosis of PTSD. If you think you are having problems, it is best to seek help. Depending on your situation, you could seek help through the VA MH system, private care, or even the Vet Centers. One interesting thing about PTSD is that it can be caused by a wide number of things from combat to vehicle accidents. The MH folks will help you narrow it down and sort it all out.

Having documentation and a nexus to military service helps to get SC for it.

Also, check the PTSD topics here on Hadit. There is a lot of useful information to be found there.

Like Vync stated here you wouldn't have to have a dx of PTSD to "submit a claim" BUT you would have to have a dx for it to eventially be granted.

Are you seeing psych now?

Jjerrbilly is correct. The MH docs can help narrow things down. My DAV lady said to file a PTSD claim for one thing, which I did. Instead, the VA MH docs are leaning toward PTSD for something else. Both can be SC, so it goes to show that what you file initially could change over time.
