HadIt.com Elder jbasser Posted February 10, 2010 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted February 10, 2010 Actually you put that down when you registered. You can edit profile at any time. J A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect. A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served. Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.
Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Vync Posted February 10, 2010 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Share Posted February 10, 2010 Seagull, Regarding your question, you do not have to have a current diagnosis of PTSD. If you think you are having problems, it is best to seek help. Depending on your situation, you could seek help through the VA MH system, private care, or even the Vet Centers. One interesting thing about PTSD is that it can be caused by a wide number of things from combat to vehicle accidents. The MH folks will help you narrow it down and sort it all out. Having documentation and a nexus to military service helps to get SC for it. Also, check the PTSD topics here on Hadit. There is a lot of useful information to be found there. HadIt.com Elder Philip Rogers Posted February 10, 2010 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted February 10, 2010 I believe one needs a diagnosis of PTSD, a verifiable stressor (depending on period of service) and a nexus, in order to file a claim, for "PTSD.". In the mean time you could file for a mental or nervous condition. jmo pr
jerrbilly
Like Vync stated here you wouldn't have to have a dx of PTSD to "submit a claim" BUT you would have to have a dx for it to eventially be granted. Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Vync Posted February 10, 2010 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Share Posted February 10, 2010 Jjerrbilly is correct. The MH docs can help narrow things down. My DAV lady said to file a PTSD claim for one thing, which I did. Instead, the VA MH docs are leaning toward PTSD for something else. Both can be SC, so it goes to show that what you file initially could change over time.
