I got a pamphlet for this in the mail last week. Here is a link to the online version of it:

http://www.insurance.va.gov/inforceglisite/forms/29-9.pdf

The pamphlet contains a good deal of information, including rate tables.

Would this apply to me if I had a new rating? I'm 100% P&T and have been for about 11-yrs. When I first started this mess with the VA, I had the DAV for a rep. & he tried (I thought then) selling me some life insurance. I said NO of course but didn't find out until yrs. later he was trying to get me into this type of life Ins. and when I became 100% the premiums would be paid (someone kick me).

thanks,

David

I bet if you keep going to the VA for treatment you can find something to claim as a disability. Chemical exposure is going to be an issue for all vets eventually I think. In my day it was AO and now maybe burnpits, jet fuel, and who knows what else. If you have your SMR's I bet there is something in there that you can get 10% for someway.

I personally know nothing about aftermarket insurance plans. I know I have life insurance through work, but hope not to use it for a long time.

Can someone please tell me if these plans are good deals? I am almost 40 years old.

dsqsr,

Yes, the 2 year limit applies to any new service-connection. If you are rated at 100% P&T already, and you get a new SC'ed condition, then you can apply and have the premiums paid for (it is coverage for $10,000). I just did it through my local Veterans Service Officer.

You must meet four criteria:

1. You were released from active service on or after April 25, 1951.

2. You were released under other than dishonorable conditions.

3. You have a service-connected disability.

4. You apply within 2 years from the date the VA grants your NEW service-connected disability.
