Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Vync Posted December 7, 2010 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Share Posted December 7, 2010 After my sleep study, the technician took off the leads and that was the last I saw of her. Afterwards, the sleep specialist doctor came in and reviewed the results with me. She explained that if my sleep apnea was bad enough to warrant a CPAP, they would give me one to take home right away. It was a big deal to her, because uncontrolled severe sleep apnea can kill you. I guess each VA works under different local policies. I would hope the sleep doc would have reviewed your records and given you one to take home. After the test I went home. Had to get copies from my ENT Dr. That's the reason I'm asking about it. I guess I really won't know untill I see a sleep specialist. I also had the test at a private facility. I would scan and post the results but don't have the knowhow. Did you recieve the last post I sent yesterday about posting me back? I'm still having computer or site problems. !!!BROKEN ARROW!!!
titlewave
My sleep study was at a private hospital. My VA doctor came in the morning, reviewed my data and told me I needed a CPAP machine. The machine they gave me is state of the art. Looking on the web, it retails for $2495.00. I have had it for several months now. It was a somewhat difficult to get use to but I am doing fine with it now. Wake up in the morning feeling pretty good. That hasn't happened in years. I appreciate the VA doing this for me. navydoc2
I was referred outside of the VA as well, The tech who hooked me up to all the electrodes came in during the night and gave me a mask. I slept pretty good after that the next thing I knew she was waking me up telling me it was time to go home lol. I was told the results would be sent to the VA and they would set me up with a cpap machine. They called a week later and I went in to get one. That was a year ago, I am still having a hard time keeping it on through the night since I sleep on my stomach usually, and at some point turn over during the night and knock it off. I think the cpap I have is a good one, all in all the VA acted pretty quick on this one I have to say. I am set at 15. I think like Pete says you should get a specialist to tell you what it all means, its that important.
Bonzai
The machine I have is not a POS either, and works very well. I am set at 8 lower limit and 12 at the upper limit. I, too, end up taking it off at night, but my sleep is better with it on than with it off. "It is a terrible thing, when you lose your train of thought and you only have a one track mind"...
