HadIt.com Elder jbasser Posted March 17, 2011 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 17, 2011 The SVR show tonight was a good one. If you have a new service connected disability you can apply for SDVI. If you are totally disabled, then you can also apply for a waiver of premium. The base policy is 10K. You can also apply for the supplamental insurance of 20K ( Current) that will increase to 30K in Oct 11. That is 40 K for not much money. You should listen to this show archive. It was a good one. justrluk
I came across my documents for this insurance, and noticed I needed to make an update. I called the 800-number at the bottom of the form (800-669-8477) and was told that if you are: 1. 80% - 100% and either a. TDIU or b. P&T or c. were 80 - 100% and filed for the waiver anyway, The monthly premium could be waived. IF the waiver was granted, then you could go from the 10K to the 30K (added 20K to the 10K). I didn't know that you could apply for the waiver of premium regardless of being P&T. I'm getting new forms in the mail, and will post the results. vmo
VA will waive premiums if you become totally disabled from any condition before your 65th birthday and remain totally disabled for 6 or more consecutive months. The percentage of your disability does not determine if the VA will approve your application. You do not have to be P & T. You do have to notify the VA if you return to work. You are entitled to waiver of premiums as long as you remain totally disabled for insurance purposes.
red
I sure hate it but somehow I missed the insurance when I was awarded p&t at the age of 60. I am now 71 and it would sure help my spouse if I passed away prior to her. Red
hedgey
It must be my brain on meds, but I just can't find my way to the SVR archives. Could someone post a link? I'd really like to listen to the one about the insurance.
Bonzai
Go to the HadIt Home Page and click on the 'SVR Radio' button on the top menu bar. That will take you to SVR Radio page which has a link to the archives.
