Does Anyone Know Why My Apportionment Is Late?

Rate this question

Question

I receive a monthly apportionment for my son, via my Viet Nam vet husband.

Normally I get it the day before the first because my mail runs late of an evening. I did not receive it yesterday and my mail carrier said she had several VA customers on her route and they did not get their checks either.

I just got back from the mailbox and the mail has already run. No apportionment today either. :(

This has me in a bit of a panic because I depend on this to make my rent. If it does not come I will be in a world of hurt.

I have not received any kind of letter saying I would not be receiving it so I am assuming it is late or something...but wonder if anyone else's checks either apportionment or otherwise are late?

If so, does anyone know why? I don't have a way to call the VA at this point in time to ask them where my check is.

(I can't direct deposit due to issues with the bank, and I haven't signed up for that ecard either.)

If they came, I'm unsure what happened.

Don't Panic quite yet! Give things a couple of days, then go into panic mode if the check is still missing..

If the check is not there today call the 800# and make sure that one was sent out. They can put a tracer on the check and issue another on if need be.

I don't know if this could be related, but our house has 2 disabled vets, plus our kid gets Chapter 35 education benefits. Last month we all got letters from the VA wanting our bank account information so they could do direct deposit into bank accounts.

I thought it could be a scam, as we all of us already have direct deposit. I called the 1-800 number and was told that it wasn't a scam, the VA wants to be sure everyone has direct deposit because they want to do away with checks.

I seem to remember seeing something about this on the news relating to people receiving Social Security checks as well.

Call the number as Sharon suggests. Early morning or later in the day works best for me, and if they offer to take your number and call back, they really do call.

Good luck :)

Let us be kind, one to another, for we are each of us together in our pain.
