You can use the DAV

640 4th Ave #138
Huntington, WV
(304) 529-5465
American Legion:
1421 6th Ave, Huntington, WV 25701
(304) 523-9471

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

My advice on VSO's has generally been don't use them unless you need to. All the information necessary to file a sucessful claim (providing evidence is there) can be found on this site, the government printing offices e-CFR site (section 38), and VA's WARMS site M21-1MR regulation. Generally compensation is payable for any active duty injury or disease that is causing continued disability (whether peacetime or wartime). Some evidentiary standards are relaxed for combat Vets, but in general the rules are the same.

As far as do-ability, this will depend on evidence, and it seems the farther away from your original departure from service, they seem to want more evidence, and may try to blame it on post service occurances and activities.

If you are thinking it will be an easy process, it won't be. If you think you can relate the issue/problem to a VSO and they will handle it, it generally wont be. If you have strong evidence, they may approve and rate, but generally will low ball your initial rating. You need to be fully invested in learning the rules and what your rights are to be entirely sucessful and know if you are being treated fairly. No one will care more about your claim than you!

Welcome aboard!

Here's a link that you should read pertaining to your question. No sense repeating what's already been said. The selection of having or not having a VSO should not be taken lightly by anyone. Good luck with your decision wreckinball.
