Congrats on a huge win brother! Awesome news! If you don't mind I have a question. I have a 13 month claim ongoing. I noticed in my progress notes that my shrink recommends the care giver program. Didn't know what that was till now. Wondering what are the qualifiers? Thanks, and congrats again!

Computer, I am already Medically Retired from the Navy, but I don't go to the base anyways. I live too far and have no need. Phil, the Caregiver Support Nurse just came to my home yesterday. I had never heard of the program either. Basically, there is a one page form that you can get off of the VA website. Then a Caregiver Support Specialist will contact you first over the phone and ask you and your wife some questions. Then if you pass that level, then the Support Specialist will contact your Psych and Physical DRs and ask them to fill out forms, kind of like a DBQ. If your Docs say that you are in bad shape, then those forms they filled out will go to the Local VA for a Panel to review and approve. From there your wife will be required to do online training and it is about 6 hours to complete. Once that is done, then the Support Specialist will send a Nurse to your home to make sure the home is clean and safe. Also, the Nurse will see if your home needs Handicap Bars or like a seat for the shower, etc. The nurse will ask your wife about your meds and how she takes care of you. Then if approved there are 3 Tiers, Level 1 is $500, Level 2 is $1000 and Level 3 is $2000 a month. I was approved for the $2000. Once approved your wife gets paid the following month, and for the first year the Nurse will come out every 3 months. Most important thing is this process is very slow, and that is if everyone does there job. Start to finish was about 5 months.
