Million Veteran Program

Question

I received a packet from the VA requesting me to be part of the Million Veteran Program. Apparently it is a genetic study. Anyone have any information about this? I'm wondering why I was selected.

I would exercise caution. They probably will tell you this is for study only..that your name wont be used. Of course, they also told us that the VA had improved and was now seeing Veterans within 14 days of requesting an appointment, so take what the VA tells you with a skeptical eye. Remember Ronald Regan? He said the most dangerous sentence in the English language is, "Im with the government and am here to help you."

Dont be "lured to sleep" with their promise that your name wont be used. If you treat them like they will publish your name, VA file number and credit card number, along with the entire list of your disabilities and percentages, as well as the specific details on your last 5 instances of Erectile dysfunction, on page one of the New York Times, plus everything you tell your VA docs "in confidence", you will do fine.

I signed up for the program. I hope it will be used in a good way...I hope that I made the right decision. I just filled out a packet that they sent me asking a lot of medical questions. I answered truthfully. I would like to see statistical data once they are done just to see how they used the info.
