It wont ever be fixed. As long as their are people who have power over others, people will want to give them things to make things work their way. Its human nature. no law will ever stop it.

What we need is veterans is to demand that our Service Org's renegotiate their charters and remove the cooperation portion of that charter. They need to be trained and to understand their duty is not to people who park in a seperate area but those who walk in the front door and need help. The VSO's should in no way be beholden to the VA and have no allegiance to assisting VA requests in anyway. their whole and total allegiance needs to be to the individual veteran. although i think we already have that its called HADIT.

I think a little grease does help. A $25 contribution is not going to put you over the top at the VA via your congressman, but they do know who contributes and who does not. I get letters begging for contributions every election from my congresswoman. Hey, she does not need my $25, but multiply that by 10,000 and you are talking real money and they know this. I agree with Talon and USMC-Vet. We should not have to bribe political people to get them to represent us. I doubt my $25 really puts me at the top of the list except on moral ground. I am a supporter. Regarding the incestuous relationship between the VA and most of the VSO's it is a scandal. I called VFW to ask about help with my treatment at the VAMC. He told me I need to get a years worth of treatment records and then maybe we can do something. Now I made a few emails and phone calls and I think the situation is fixed for now. Why could he not do that for me? I am a life member.

Corruption still bothers me and gets me riled up. I understand and I am not saying you shouldn't do it, I actually think it is a smart idea, I am just an idealist at heart, I guess. I believe in the idealized America I fought for, and a kernel of goodness and sense of justice somewhere in everyone, however small. Even if it is a fairy tale. As for the VSO's, I will be "engaging" with mine regularly thru all channels available to me at the highest levels I can reach once my claim is finalized. Honestly, I am afraid to do it before then. They are a joke. One thing I know how to do is fight and nothing makes a better war than a crusade.
