Hello Buck,

In California there is something called In Home Support Services that each county pays for either outside help or a family member up to I think $3000.  Each state has their own version of this and else eligibility requires income requirements, medi-cal or Medicaid, and an in home interview.  Check out this link below that I found that breaks down each state.  In California you don't have to be elderly you can be disabled and pass the interview process.  Check out the link below.

The VAMC here in TN does offer a bed bath program.

We declined, my husband is very modest, so I do it.

He also gets 3 days of 5 hours each when a caregiver

comes in. She is amazing!  There is one social worker assigned to managing this program. It was not easy to get, but worth every second spent trying. I try and set my doctors appointments during the time she is here. She gives quality companionship, does light housekeeping and is totally awesome. We also hire private caregivers to help.

Buck, as your friend gets closer to his actual "Check Out" time, he should look into the Hospice offered at the VMC. Nice, clean and other Vet's around. Dying in a VA Hospital has a few Financial Benefits also, he should look into it.
