After years without a Cola, or very little, Veterans are scheduled to get 2 percent Cola in Jan. 2018.  For a 100 percent Veteran this amounts to "about" $60 per month, depending upon your number of dependents and whether or not you get SMC.

Cola since 2010 follows:

January 2010 -- 0.0%
January 2011 -- 0.0%
January 2012 -- 3.6%
January 2013 -- 1.7%
January 2014 -- 1.5%
January 2015 -- 1.7%
January 2016 -- 0.0%
January 2017 -- 0.3%
January 2018 -- 2.0%

I bought a house for $70,000 back in 1987.  Now because of inflation the same house would cost me $400,000.  I don't think I could afford that on VA compensation .  I did all the right things.  I invested my money and lived way below my means for years.  I understand my 2% for SSA will be eaten up by increase in Medicare Part B which I must have.  We are breaking down into two unequal societies one percent rich and 99% just making it.  This is not the American dream it is the requiem for the American Dream.  It is better than a sharp stick in the eye but more like a sucking sound in my wallet.

So what is the COLA RATE for next year 2018?

Or do we even get one?

Anything is better than Nothing.

Inflation will go up rather or not we get increases or not.

I let Veterans know to down size and be prepared for anything at least if some thing drastically happens  he can still survive on ends meet.

some how most of us survived before we got our Disability compensation.

I am not an Attorney or VSO, any advice I provide is not to be construed as legal advice, therefore not to be held out for liable BUCK!!!

The "official" Social security announcement is here. https://www.ssa.gov/news/press/releases/#/post/10-2017-1

However, VA's COLA is not "automatic", but congress is under great pressure to pass the same for Vets as Social secuirty.  So far, social security and Vets cola has always been the same.
