Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
My father served in Vietnam and has just been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Can he file for disability compensation? If so, what would be the wording on the written statement? Lung cancer secondary to AO exposure? Thanks in advance, Quibley

ptsd Interesting Conversation With Amc Today
Good afternoon all. I just wanted to share with you an interesting converstation I had with the Congressional Unit of the AMC. This representative has been communicating with me frequently in regards to my DIC claim. I like a fool thought that the AMC are advocates for the veteran and their families. Well I called today to gain some insight as to what was the status of my claims. I received a SSOC in May and submitted additional information in support of my claim in June. The lady who in the past presented herself as a friend to my cause informed me today that (1) the recent denial I received in May came from the AMC and that the denial came from them and had nothing to d…

Ihd Claim
To begin with, I had my normal 3 mo check up with my Cardiologist today and brought in to the discussion the VA's decision to compensate for IHD based upon AO exposure. I was rather shocked to discover that my personal doctor had no knowledge of any association between AO and IHD. He was aware of AO, but knew nothing of this. Interesting? Anyway, I have filed with the VA via VONAPP for compensation based upon my IHD and my agent orange exposure and am now wondering what the burden of proof will be for me to establish the claim. Background, USMC 1965-69, recieved Medical Retirement in 1969 for disability from wounds received 6APR68 near Khe Sahn Combat Base ( My …

Is Ao Prostate Cancer Cosidered Combat Related?
Hoping you guys will go by the rule that there are no dumb questions! I have googled all over and can't find a definitive answer. If I flew out of Vietnam and got shot at, is my 40 something years later prostate cancer considered combat related as well as service related? Still waiting on VA decision, of course. VA clinic here in Viera has been great. Didn't know I qualified but was told to apply. Had orientation and VA ID card in less than a month. There are a few state of Florida perks for combat related disabilities. capted

hypertension First C&p For Diabetes And Coronary Artery Disease
First time post here. Greetings to all and thanks in advance for the help. I am a Vietnam vet, served in III Corps in an assault helicopter company. I'm rated 0% right now, but am going for my first C&P on the 30th of this month. My claim filed under Agent Orange is for Type II Diabetes with secondaries hypertension, neuropathy and coronary artery disease. This is how my VSR said to file. I'm not exactly sure why coronary artery disease cannot be considered separately given the recent IHD addition to the list of diseases covered under Agent Orange. Perhaps one of you will enlighten me about this. I had a heart attack in '96. I have a stent and see a c…

diabetes Agent Orange Issues Set For September Hearing
This article was posted online today 6/18/10, the gist of which is that Senator Webb has asked Secretary Shinseki to appear before a Senate Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on 9/23/10 to explain his decision to compensate veterans who have Parkinson's disease, ischemic heart disease, or hairy cell leukemia. The amendment that Senator Webb attached to HR 4899 passed attached to the Senate version of that bill, but both the Senate and House versions of that bill are now with the Senate-House conferees. If the bill passes with the amendment intact, it'll mean a delay of 60 days after the VA publishes the final regulation in the Federal Register unless perhaps the VA pub…

I Have Two Questions
I have a couple of questions for the forum. If the Act that was passed in the 90's gave the Sec of Vet Affairs the descion making authority after being advised from the authorized medical experts to add a presumtive disease to the list of AO list of diseases, what is the Webb hearing have to do with this authority? Is he just curious of what the medical evidence is? My second question is: has any of the previous diseases added been questioned and claims denied because of life style? ie being overweight, family history, smoking, etc? I can't see them awarding a 60 year old Vet that is 40 pounds overweight, smoked for 40 years and developed IHD anything. Do you think they w…

New Ao Presumptives
Can Senator Webb and Congress stop these 3 new presumptives or at the most just delay them? I thought the Agent Orange Act of 1991 gave the Secretary of VA the authority to add these. At the worst what can happen to getting these added? Thanks Bob

C File Request
I just sent a request under FOIA to get a copy of my VA Claim file and got back a letter of acknowledgement for the request in which they state that they will do so but they have included statements like "to inform you of the decision to grant to you access to the requested records if found, and not expempted from disclosure by law". Exactly what records would they be talking about? Nothing in my file that shoudl be "top secret". I don't get this. Jim

ptsd Is It Worth Dying For
“Is It Worth Dying For? is the most important examination of stress and its effects on health and disease in years. In this groundbreaking book, cardiologist Dr. Robert S. Eliot identifies "hot reactors"-apparently healthy people who overreact dangerously to such common occurrences as losing a tennis game or missing a train. If you are a "hot reactor," you can be responding to stress with an all-out physical effort that is taking a heavy toll on your health...without your even being aware of it. Based on more than twenty years of research with thousands of patients, Is It Worth Dying For? takes stress management etc http://books.google.com/books?id=MeXpi6T98wgC&d…
