After 50 years I received a 100% disability rating. At 73 years of age I was awarded it about a month ago.
After 50 years I received a 100% disability rating. At 73 years of age I was awarded it about a month ago. Prior to then I received a letter from the Treasury Department stating they didn't have my banking info available if I was awarded a pension. Turns out they did. I had to call the number given to verify it. The gentleman I talked to told me how it can take 6 to 8 years for an appeal. WOW! That was depressing. He said the Washington office alone had 4 or 5 staffers and handled 30,000 claims. I wrote to Senator John McCain telling him what I had learned. With no reply necessary. I turned on CSPAN 2 weeks later to see what was going on with our committee hearings and I …

To "RAMP" or not to "RAMP"
As many may know, Congress has passed new legislation which essentially requires VA to cut down on appeal backlog. This plan is known as "RAMP". Currently, only Veterans who ARE INVITED by VA can elect to go with RAMP. Im not sure it will do much good to write to VA and tell them you want RAMP, tho its POSSIBLE that VA may grant this request. A well known law firm has published some credible, and valuable information on RAMP. If offered a chance to "RAMP" through a VA letter, its probably a good idea to: 1. Just do it and go for RAMP. 2. At least read the following before declining ramp, and discuss this with your representative. https:…

ptsd Feeling screwed
I was denied for my fully developed PTSD claim as being not service related. I went to the DAV to file my appeal but they suggested I get treatment and counseling first to establish a paper trail and to get evidence of service connection. After about 6 months of treatment I went to file my appeal. They said to do the reconsideration based on new evidence ( treatment notes and a letter from my VA therapist plus copies of my Purple Heart award) and file a NOD at the same time. In mid March a representative of the VA called and said that reconsideration can go through but i have to drop the nod. I dropped it and I've had a new c&p exam on April 8 and it's still in the ga…

How long does a higher level review/CUE take?
Updated as of 2020-08-27 (at the bottom of my original post) How long does a higher level review/CUE take? I initially called the 1-800 number and they said supplemental reviews are supposed to take less than 125 days, but they were not certain about higher level reviews. The agent speculated they could take a year or longer. This post was changed to track my claim as it made it's way through the VA system. This may help other veterans understand some of the inner workings of what goes on behind the scenes. Why am I calling this HLR/CUE and not just CUE or HLR? At the time the claims were submitted, other members have indicated filing their CUE claims as …

New Evidence For Bva
Hello to all, I was wondering if someone could help me out with some advice. I submitted a claim to the VA in 2007. I have esophagitis, with a hiatus hernia. Also GERD. I returned from Iraq in 2005, was discharged in 2006, went to the VA and began getting treated and diagnosed, (upper GI)and then treated with omeprazole and some kind of nasty thick liquid stuff. The Doc called for a endoscopy, so I waited for an appt. which never happened. So the next time I went in for an Appt. Doc wanted to know about the endoscopy, so he pulled up something on his computer, and it said it was put in as a routine procedure and was denied. This went on one more time till the Doc h…
