I'm glad they are addressing this. There should be a law in place that, regardless of shut down all military and VA payments should still be paid.

My understanding for IU is, you don't have to be a certain percentage to have IU awarded. If this is correct, how could VA deny him based on his percentage?
-
Well... Congratulations on both of your wins!!
I'm not for sure if I've congratulated you yet or if I missed it but I'm really glad you got not 1 but both of them.
-
Congratulations!!! Thank you for your service! You earned it!

If you go into ebenefits and go under documents and then Veterans summary letter, it may show you there.

Wow! Thats awesome!! I've been complaining about this for years. It's really difficult when you have 3 kids with zero dental insurance. I'm glad to hear this!!

As in Nov 1st check? I wonder why it's early.

Welcome wp!!! Thank you for your service and good luck with your claim!

Ohh and btw, my mail carrier says he didnt put the envelope there and he didnt know where it may have came from. It wasnt there when I checked the mail that afternoon. And VA claims to have mailed me a total of 7 of those forms but I have never received any to this day.

You are correct about what happened in my situation. But ill explain it a little.
The first week of Jan. 2012 I found a letter laying on my front porch that was from VA. It said if I didn't have a certain form filled out and turned into VA by Feb 1st I would lose my IU. I called then the next morning (cause it was 8pm when I found it) and was told they'd mail me the form. Long story short, I called lots of times but never received the form so on Jan 22 I had them fax it to me. They gave me a fax number to send it back. I filled it out and faxed it back within 10 mins tops. I called and was told they received my fax and the form showed in the computer so I was in the good. March 1st my check was cut and I was told the computer didnt recognize it and it could take up to 3 months to fix. Im glad you got your husbands burial taken care of. VA should have never made you go through the difficulty of something your husband earned and was owed. Shame on them!!!

Yes thats exactly what happened. I had thought of contacting a congressman but I had read that doing so may hurt you instead of help you so I didnt bother with it. I think I will contact him and bring the letter the VA sent me along with all the past due and disconnect bills I have. Lol!! It makes it really tough to juggle bills and provide meals for 3 kids when you lose 2 grand a month your used to relying on. Thanks for the advice I think I may use it.

Free...I agree with that so much! My family has based our financial situation on the income we've been receiving for the last 6 years so when I lost 2/3 of my pay it has put us in a huge financial mess. I'm being told that all I can do is wait it out. But waiting it out is hard to do when you cant get employment because you're disabled. I do feel lucky that I haven't lost my house and vehicle yet but I'm afraid if things aren't fixed soon I may end up losing the things I do have.

In my local State American Legion office (which are the Vsos here) there is only one person working thereat a time and the secretary. In all the years I've been using them, I've only talked to the officer a handful of times. It's always the secretary who calls back. She always says that sge was the one who talked to the RO so I'm not sure what he really does. Throughout the years, there has been 4 different officers working there. Out of 4 I've had 1 good one. He was the last one and I hated to see him retire. He stayed on top of things and knew his job well. So there are some really good Vso's but unfortunately they are out weighed by the bad.

My claim is so confusing, I dont know where it stands at my RO. Mine is a Administrative Review and I dont really know what that means. My RO is Huntington, WV
-
I most certainly agree with your post. I wish all VSOs were more like you!! There are always a few who ruin the reputation of the good. Thats why I always make sure to mention that not all is the same. There are ones like you who do what they do because they actually care and want to make a difference and help. I appreciate your dedication and hard work. Thank you for everything you do!!!
-
Wow an appeal since 2004. That's a long time! I hope everything gets taken care of soon and it goes in your favor. Goof luck!
-
That was almost exactly what my IRIS response was. Only difference was, they say my RO is taking around 9 months to complete on a average claim. Sounds like they send emails based on a script.

VA claims they mailed me a form 6 times which I still have never received any of them. I believe they are the incompetent ones. I'm not sure as to how you could fix this but there are many people on here that I'm sure can help you with this or at least send you in the right direction. Good luck!! I hope everything goes in your favor.

Thanks for posting. I'm going to go ahead and forward her the link to this. That way she can go through and read it herself. Every time I speak with her on the issue she gets very nervous. Luckily, she has her own retirement she lives on every month to pay the bills and hasn't had to spend any of the over payment they are sending her. She was a federal clerk for 25 years. She knows a lot about federal laws but is clueless when it comes to VA.

I am going to call her tomorrow morning and pass all this information on to her. I know she will be very grateful! I also apologize if I caused this forum to switch topics. It wasnt my intention. I guess I got caught up in someone actually asking me questions about what happened in my situation. Its a rather odd one and I haven't had many people ask questions or give any answers. Thanks again for everything!! It's much appreciated!

The state is WV. I really appreciate you taking the time to look up this information and respond with it, free_spirit. You are very knowledgeable and I thank you so much.

Good luck to you Wms!! I'm hoping for success on your behalf. It's good to know claims are still moving. I had got a little worried since I hadn't seen any new success stories lately.

I'm pretty sure I've heard her say something about survivers benefits so I think thats what shes getting.

I logged into ebenefits today and it moved to Pending Decision Approval. I tried to look under benefit summary but I'm not getting anything to come up yet. The knot in my stomach is making me sick. I had my IU for 6 years and don't know what I would do if I was denied it this time around.
