Larry,Pete,Time and 1968, Thanks for the responses. Am checking in with VSO as well, and getting the nerve up to get IMO. Its so hard to tell the story and get evaluated by once again, another physician. Probably wont drink coffee before I go, avoiding the anxiety kickin effects. Or maybe I just might.....smile.cgup~!

Cowgirl,

I wish that I could say that it will be easy for you to discuss your depression to another doctor.

It really gets to me to keep bringing up old memories.

I spent half of my life trying to bury these memories as far back into my brain as I can place them

The more I talk about them, the more just like yesterday they become.

Then the vicious cycle begins all over again. The more I talk about them , the more depressed I become.

The more depressed I become, the more the anxiety kicks in.

Perhaps you will need to drink the coffee.

Always and Best of Luck,

Josephine

Josephine, thanks for the smile you put on my face regards the coffee. We are a good family here at Hadit and trying hard to make a go of it. Other places and other times I avoided and redirected talking about my needs or feelings, a self esteem issue here. Guess its sorta like a recovery, trying to stay ahead of self-doubt and prepare for success, eh? Its even hard to say the word "depressed" let alone feeling depressed. Okay, maybe I will sort out the Halloween candy early and hope for a chocolate to miss the dish!

Talked to my VSO a bit, they'll review my CFile claims and SOC's when I go in. At least I'll have a balanced printout compared to my second post here regards provisonal diagnosis of dysthmya and other history (who knows what occured with the typing?)cg,up

For my children, my God sent husband and my Hadit family of veterans, I carry on.

Cowgirl,

I think that we are a wonderful bunch here. I will tell each of you things about myself, that I wouldn't hardly want to tell myself.

Isn't that strange.

I have buried things for so long, but here everyone feels what we are saying.

By all means think postive!

This is one thing that my doctor has pounded in my head for years, " Wait and act when something happens and don't spend all of your time preparing for something that may not."

By the way, flip me a piece of candy. I haven't eaten a piece in 6 years. I seriously have not.

I sure do remember the last Snickers Bar that I ate, the year before I found out that I was a severe diabetic.

Always Remember, We are Here for You!

Cowgirl,

dsythimia definition: A mood disorder characterized by chronic depression for a period of at least 2 years.

Since all mental disorders are rated under the same mental disorders rating schedule I'd say it's worth going for an earlier effective date if the treatment notes will support it. Dysthmic disorder is # 9433 and Major depressive disorder is # 9434 in the schedule of ratings - mental disorders.

Sounds like a good IMO is in order if you don't already have one where a qualified shirk reviews all of your active duty and post active duty records.

Good luck w/ your claim and keep us posted. Hang in there. About the only good thing about depression is the black shroud occasionally lifts and you can feel human again. During those times is when you fight the good fight.

Tssnave. Yes, its hard to share and work these very personal issues. Thank you for your support as well, havent been sleepin well lately, hopin' to be back in pattern soon. Part of me says I cant be that broken, part of me says, yup, it happened. Everyday I work; my job = staying mentally "balanced" for my family. I confirms the dysthimia diagnosis with DSM and C&P "probable" diagnosis and sees the link connecting it deep into my SMRs . Thanks Hadit, someday, someyear it will all be worth the effort. cg'up here!

Caluza Triangle – Caluza vs Brown defined what is necessary for service connection. See COVA– CALUZA V. BROWN–TOTAL RECALL

This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
