sbrewer
My husband finally received his decision letter...fully favorable. One thing on it I did not understand..."The claimant's date last insured is December 31,2011." What does this mean? Will he be cut off of disability then and receive no more money from SS? thanks, sbrewer

HadIt.com Elder jbasser Posted September 16, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted September 16, 2008 Is that a birthday. Could it be the day someone turns 65. SSDI is actually disability insurance. J A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect. A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served. Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.
sbrewer
I also asked this question on the other site and the response there was...he until that date to file. I hope that is the correct answer. sbrewer
Ricky
Congrats on your success. It is true that the 2011 date is the last date the insured had to file for SSDI.
HadIt.com Elder Philip Rogers Posted September 18, 2008 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted September 18, 2008 (edited) Yes, that is the last day he was eligible to file for SSDI and be covered. Had he applied after, that date, SSDI would have told him he was ineligible, as he would have lacked enough current quarters. It's either five or 10 yrs, from the last employment date. I believe it's five yrs. This is why, if a claimant became disabled more than five yrs before filing for SSDI, they use a disability onset date within five yrs of the last day they worked. Also, I believe, SSDI uses the annual income for the previous 10 yrs, taking the highest five and averaging them for the rate they pay the claimant. pr Edited September 18, 2008 by Philip Rogers
halos2
Philip Rogers, I agree with you on the information you have provided. How long have you been 100%, and did you have a fight on your hands for years to obtain it? Edited September 18, 2008 by halos2
