Question

I live in the Northern Virginia area outside of DC where the cost of living is a bit high. I have been looking at the pay charts for SC'd disability at 100% and being TDIU. How do you ladies and gentleman get by on this compensation and not being able to work?

You are right about north Florida. I was thinking about what it was like when I was much younger. Houses were cheap and cost of living was cheap. No services to think of for the poor. I do think North Central Florida is very good. I live in Tampa. I think a person could get a good deal on a house if you stay away from big cities and stay north of Tampa and away from the coasts. They are building a VAMC in Orlando and there is one in Gainesville.

Parts of North Florida are still reasonable.

I've found a really good deal on a house in Palo Alto.

It's a corner lot (100' X 50'), with a nice chain link fence and a 5' orange tree in the back. 2 bedroom 1 bath frame (1040 sq ft) WITH a carport.

$620,000.00

and the real estate taxes are just

$18K yearly.

What a deal.

W/running water AND indoor plumbing AND 'lectricity.

An Okie's dream home!

Only problem is, is it needs paintin', so that'll probably screw the deal...........heck it'd take probably almost 5 gallon!

Its a mistake to compare to what you worked for and were paid. Compare it to retirement and it is a lot better. We are not rich by any means but we have enough to do well and don't forget that the VA helps you by taking years to award your earned benefits. After 5 and 1/2 years of barely scrimping by when I won the VA gave me a nice nest egg and a lot more money than we were spending.

Ask your friends if they could get by on TDIU and Social Security when they retire?
