Trip To Va Hospital Tomorrow

Rate this question

Carl the Engineer

Question

All,

Going to the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain MI tomorrow for a dental appointment (don't know why, and they won't tell me), and am wondering what else I can see/do while I'm there? In the past, I usually just go, get done, and leave. 1.5 hours one way, so I don't go there except for appointments. I have a clinic 30 miles away for checkups, but they don't have any info on me. Or at least that is what they say when it comes to claims.

I have a claim in the works. Can I check its status while I'm there or are they not in that loop? Will my claim status show up on their computers, etc.?

I realize my medical record (C-file) is probably with my claim at the "decision phase" so it won't be there, however, does the hospital have copies of all of my C&P's and my MRI's and can/should I get a copy of those for my records?

I already use Ebenifits so I don't need them to help me get on there.

Thanks,

Hamslice

Hamslice,

The VAMC can't tell you the status of your claim, they aren't in that loop. Yes, do go to release of imformatiom and request a copy of your medical records for your files. Get copies of all records that you don't already have.

Go to release of information and tell them to mail you a complete set of your va medical records on file. Go to Imaging office for Mris/x-rays and ask them to mail you a copy of any images on cd format.

Ham,

Do you have a claim pending for anything that relates to dental / TMJ ?

I ask because your profile shows 60 % SC and dental is not provided at 60%,

unless perhaps one of your doctors has stated you have a dental condition

that is aggravating a SC'd condition.

I think the new vets only get dental for the first 90 or 180 days after separation.

So, I went to the VA dentist today. I have a appointment that showed up in MyHealthyVet and that I had confirmed 2 months ago, and they robo called me 3 days ago on Friday to remind me. I had asked why and they didn't know at that time (2 months ago).

I arrive early and they have me on the list. The nurse (?) comes out and asks me if I am there for a bridge or dentures. I said no my teeth are fine. She say "OK" and goes back in. She comes back out and gets me for x-rays, say I am a Class II, what ever that means. Takes x-rays and puts me in the dentist chair.

Dentist comes in and asks me why I am there? I told him I do not know and that you (the VA) scheduled me for it. I told him that my appointments showed up on MyHealthyVet and I had confirmed them with a phone call. He asked me what MyHealthyVet was? (See a problem here, if the doctors don't know what MyHealthyVet is).

So we, him and I and anyone else in earshot agreed that this was my appointment from when I redeployed in 2004 that I showed up for but the dentist was unavailable because of a family emergency. 8 years later.

The only other thing he could think of is if I was 100% etc., however, I told him I was at 60% with a increase pending and I didn't think that would get me to 100%. He and the nurse both told me that they have recently seen a huge number of 100%ers coming through. So there is some good news for some of you.

What the hey - If they were to offer me some dental work,

I'd be there in a heart beat and hope the equipment had been

properly sterilized : -)
