Vets thought the VA was reforming the rules for PTSD when, in fact, it was a plot to make getting SC'ed for PTSD much harder. Now they have this check list for PTSD almost nobody can have all the symptoms, therefore, they don't have PTSD.

I don't get it...can someone please enlighten me? I'd really appreciate it!! So, if a person has been going to mh, already has a diagnosis of PTSD, including from VA docs, but the C&P examiner does not concede the PTSD, what is the criteria VARO will follow? In other words, which doc is believed? Geez, this is so confusing!! I'm surmising veteran rydastar has been going for treatment, so what does the VA do in a situation where the medical opinion is contradictory? Thanks all for any/all information!!

You never know until you get the letter from VA...They had denied mine for 2 years while I had a VA phsychiatrist that was putting in her notes that I had PTSD..I resubmitted the claim with over a years worth of her notes, had a C&P and waited for the results...I fully expected 30% max and in the end was very, very suprised to get 70%.In my case it seems that my C&P exam went in my favor.BUT, NEVER GIVE UP, always keep fighting..If you have MH notes saying that you have PTSD submit them ,but never let the VA get the upper hand...GRID

The new regs are so important it pays to bump them up here- I suggest strongly that anyone filing under these new regs read ALL of the info available.

The whole 9 yards of the new PTSD regs are here:

http://ow.ly/6agLj

2 hyperlinks and Tbird posted a video.

The new VBM 2010 edition from NVLSP contains an separate addendum and the important part to this addendum is:

It is important to note per the addendum that "the veteran must have been located" either in or within close proximity of the "hostile military or terrorist activity"that produced the "fear of" this activity.

The new reg is Not a "liberalizing" rule and the reg itself is insufficient alone in attempt to re-open a previous denial.

If a veteran's PTSD claim was denied and final prior to July 13,2010 and he/she files a new claims after July 13, 2010 they should give "as much detail as possible" regarding the experience they had or were in close proximity to that led to their "fear of hostile military or terrorist activity."
