Proving Incountry Presence?

Rate this question

Question

In the fall of 1972 I flew in the ship's C1A COD into DaNang on emergency leave. From there I went to Saigon and Travis. Return was from Travis to Clark/Subic. My original orders, with attached MAC Travel Authorization forms, only have stamps for Travis arrival and Subic arrival. How can I prove I was in DaNang and Saigon? I could describe what I saw there, but somehow I don't think that's enough evidence.

Here is an IDEA. Do you still have the Orders?

If you can get the tail number of the aircraft that took you you may be able to trace it that way.

It is a long shot but if you have the dates the JSRRC may have the deck logs that logged the trip.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

What was the name of the ship?

Do you have your 201 file? or is that what you meant by the MAC travel forms?

Can you prove what the emergency was that required you to fly into Danang?

If you can obtain the ship's cruisebook, your name would be in it and also I assume, the destination too, although your ship might well be on the AO Ship's list.

If the plane left the ship,flying west, then it would have to refuel before reaching 800 nautical miles,meaning either the 'emergency' caused a landing or the need to refuel did.And this was not unusual for refueling COD planes in Danang.

Try this, it is being recommended by some influential advocates in very high places (Same place the December C&P came from)!

Follow the instructions, the more specific the information the better!!!

Examples:

Travel Voucher for Emergency Leave, TE-340, dated 12/8/1972, 388th Security Police Squadron, with travel on or about 12/8/1972 with return on or about 1/6/1973;
