Travel Pay Question......

Rate this question

StreetWalker

Question

I've got a pretty basic question about travel pay. 1. I'm 70% SC 2. I'm being treated for non-SC prostate cancer. 3. 5X a week radiation treatments. I've never gotten travel pay except for C&P exams but this daily 12 mile one way drive is burning a bit of gas. Would I qualify for travel pay for these treatments?

If you have records of your past appointments they will go back as far as 30days I think.

Goodluck!

They can and will go back further, if you fight it. Most all travel is considered "authorized" during the passed 30 days. If the travel is over the 30 days they consider it "unauthorized" and routinely deny it, since it passed the 30 day period, even though it may have been authorized, originally. It's important that claims for travel be submitted within the 30 day authorized period, to prevent denial.

I used to get travel pay, but it just was not worth it. Like you, its about 10 miles to the VA, and I have to wait through a line each time to get paid. I would wait 20 to 30 minutes for $1.80 or very close. This amounts to about $3.60 per hour. It used to be around $6.80 , but now its about 2.00. Its just one of the ways Vets have been raked over the coals in the past few years.

If the VA transports you, then you wont get it.

At the Las Vegas VA hospital you can sign in for your appt. at the appropriate area and they do your travel right then and there. No wait, no additional line and that's all she wrote. I get $11 a trip and generally go twice a week right now for physical therapy so it's worth it for me.
