Question

Not sure where to put this question. I filled a claim for PTSD and headaches back in 2005 after Iraq of 2003-2004. I got denied a year later and try to appeal. During that appeal the case worker that I was dealing with waited a year to tell me I never appealed after I repeatedly went to his office and sat down with him and him telling me its still in decision. I never got a C&P exam that whole time and I still kept goin to after care for my PTSD. I stop going to the VA and doctors in 2008-2011 because I started having a hard time dealing and since I was not service connected, my medical treament and medications was getting billed to me. I was sent to Afganistan in 2010-2011. I started to see the doctor again for PTSD, headaches, and my back and reopen a claim in 2011 right when I got back. Working with another case worker, she help me get 80% for PTSD, headaches, and back and won it in 2012. This time I did get a C&P exam. They only back paid me for 2011 and I asked my case worker how come they didnt back pay from the original 2005 claim, and she said because there was a gap in treatment. Is this true? Is there a way to get that backpay from 2005. I lost alot of the old paperwork with the original claim through my episodes of rage, so I have no paperwork to back anything up. Thanks for any help given.
