Will The Va Help Me Be More Comfortable In My Home

Recommended Posts

VA Independent Living Program, Chapter 31 under Vocational Rehabilitation Department can get you a $6500.00 1 time grant to upgrade your bathroom. 2 Vets I pushed to it recently had their shower redone. VA IL will send out a Social Worker to look over your house and make an assessment of your needs. You have to use a VA approved contractor for the work.

You can also get a number of other items Dependant upon your needs. Lift chairs, special beds ramps, etc. That is separate from the $6500 grant. There isn't a comprehensive list available to Vets put out by the VA. Some IL Councilors are more helpful than others regarding what's available. In years past, a Vet could get a riding lawnmower, not anymore. Do your own due diligence researching what's available. You have to ask for it, just like Comp, VA doesn't come looking for you.
