Question

My friend was in Vietnam and has heart problems and he had 90% blockage and they put a stent in.back in 97.Last year I told him to put a claim in for AO,he did but could not get his old records. The DAV told him to get another stress test so he did and get the results and send it in.He said the stent help with the blockage, will the DAV write to the doctor if they need anymore information.I know when you have heart problems it does not go away. The DAV said it will take awhile to get his claim process ,do you think he has a chance to get sc and a percentage for his claim

All he needs is some documentation that he was in Vietnam. His DD214 should have that documented. If he has a DX for CAD/IHD and set foot in Vietnam then he should be able to get connected.

John is Right!

He obviously has Ischemic heart disease from the AO.

if he ever filed a past claim for anything, that was denied and yet the IHD was rated at that time, he might well have potential for more retro under Nehmer , Footnote one.

Does he get SSDI and if so is it solely for the heart disease?

Geez...I still think of you Vietnam Vets as young innocent kids who served in the War but many of you are probably retirement age by now and on SSA retirement and not SSDI..

forgot, does he have any other disability on the AO presumptive list?

He needs to file a claim tomorrow or he will lose a months worth of benefits, when he wins. If he can go to a VARO, tomorrow, and file his claim, he should/must!!!

Better yet, I think he can file online, "tomorrow." Not filing, tomorrow, could cost him the amount paid, at whatever his percentage turns out, when he wins. Could be anywhere from about $200 - $2700, depending on the percentage awarded.

Even if the stent has unblocked the artery, he can still be service connected. John, Berta and PR have given great advice. File ASAP. He could drop dead of a heart attack tomorrow. JMO
