Gastone
Win 7 HP laptop, no Password Recovery Disc. For whatever reason, my (2) different Admin Accounts passwords are being rejected. Either didn't make or can't find the Password recovery disc. Any experienced advice would be appreciated. Semper Fi

rwskitch
...yeah, you can do as I do Gastone and never sign out, because having to reenter the P/W every time I log in - bytes...! If I'm online, I'm on Hadit, and it's become my, so to say 'Lifeline,' to continue sucking air and surviving another day, so someday, God willing, I'll be able to assist other Vets the way that all my bros & sis, such as yourself, does here on this site...! GuaymasJim
Gastone, if you are logged on as an admin right now, you can create another admin account that is or is not password protected. That way you don't risk getting completely locked out. Control Panel>User Accounts>Manage another account>Create another account From the new admin account you can change passwords for the other accounts. If you are unable to log in as an admin, it will be a bit more difficult--but perfectly doable. If we need to go the other route, it will take access to the net, a disk burner and some communication. PM me either way. Semper Fi!
Moderator broncovet Posted February 22, 2016 Moderator Share Posted February 22, 2016 I agree with Jim. First, make sure "case" is correct, (caps lock is not on) and try again. Fortunately, there is a fairly easy (ok, its easy for nerds, not so easy for tech newbies) way to recover windows 7 admin password, but only when you have physical possession of the computer, which Im sure you do. You download Knoppix on any computer with a DVD burner. Since knoppix is a fairly large file, this may take 20 minutes to an hour or so, depending upon your internet download speed. You can also boot knoppix from a USB drive, too, but this takes some more explaining, but just do it on the DVD drive, its simpler, if you are a non nerd. Nerds probably already know how to do this. http://knoppix.net/ Burn a DVD of this free, open source operating system. Its possible, or even likely that some other open source linux will also work the same, but I have used Knoppix successfully, and have not tried others. Then, put the Knoppix DVD in the dvd drive of the computer you wish to unlock the password. The knoppix operating system will load, and you will be running knoppix operating system, which will run from the DVD drive live, but you will be able to "see" the entire windows system on the hard drive. It may take a little skill to find it, but locate the windows password, which will be in plain text, not encrypted. Write it down. Power the computer down. Then power the computer back up just long enough to take out the knoppix DVD and remove it. Power the computer down again, and then it will boot in windows. Enter the password. Done.
