PTSD-MST Treatment(s)

Question

Good evening everyone,

Since November of 2015, I have been getting treatment from my local outpatient medical clinic for PTSD-MST which occurred in 1984 and I finally told my wife and VA doctor about mid November 2015.  (yes, raped by men - and I finally have a claim submitted).

Since November 2015 I have been getting EMDR therapy, frequent psychotherapy counseling and a variety of medications.  I am currently taking 200MG 1X day Sertraline (Zoloft), 2MG Prazosin X2 day, 10MG Ambien at bedtime.  I have been so psychologically jacked up, that my last day at work at a big box retail store manager, was 1/4/2016 and I am currently on state disability for PTSD.

Strangely, my emotional state and psychological condition seems to have gotten worse in spite of the best efforts of my frequent treatment and medication.  I am now 57 years old and feel as though I have little to ZERO hope in being a productive, contributing and respected member of society anytime EVER.  Since 1984, I have tried an unimaginable variety of things to deal with this problem, none of which had any long term positive result.  I feel drained, empty, lifeless.

My VA doctors have explained to me numerous times, that my feelings are normal and I will feel worse before I feel better.  I don't want to disappoint them but I feel so terrible.

Can someone please give me an idea how long it takes to actually start feeling alive and useful again?

Thank you so much....

Keep trying to use technology to block calls.  It may take some reading or learning to know how to block them, but persist and get er done.

Time Warner Cable phone allows me to block ALL calls EXCEPT up to 20 callers that I put on the approved list.  Then your family and friends could call, but "unknown" callers could not.

Here is a video (utube) on how to block callers:

https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search;_ylt=A0LEVjN9JxJXz88AGFwPxQt.;_ylu=X3oDMTByMDgyYjJiBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=How+To+Block+Unwanted+Calls+With+Google+Voice&fr=yhs-ddc-ddc_bd&hspart=ddc&hsimp=yhs-ddc_bd

There are several ways, you can block just certain numbers, or you can send anyone to voicemail who is not on your approved list.

Dont put up with unwanted or even hurtful callers even if they fake the number they are calling from.

You can send unknown callers to voicemail.  If its an old friend you havent heard from, then call em back.  If its your stalker, then ignore.

I am currently under therapy for my MST trauma.  Until 2014, I couldn't even talk about it.  I got pregnant and lost the child and continued to hide my feelings and suppressed it for decades.  NO ONE can tell you a timeline as to when you will feel better.  I can tell you that I have been in active weekly therapy, and trust me there were days I didn't want to go but I dragged my ASS there and I always felt better when I walked out of her office.  She also sees me for my BDD and my eating disorder.  Yep I have a lot of issues.

I would say to you this, get yourself into therapy.  Make sure you are communicating with your wife and therapist.  You have to be honest with them.  If you don't want to "open" up at first that is okay.  Take baby steps.

You got this!

God Bless!!!

Thank you for your message and I appreciate you and\d everyone one else on  this forum.  As I mentioned before, if it were not for TBird, I would likely be just a memory.

You had mentioned a eating disorder, can you tell me about that?  I do not have a eating or OCD disorder, however I do weigh myself at least three time per day in order to stay withing a two pound target weight.  I am 56 years old and athletic, 5'11" and I remain at and feel good at 162 - 164 (age and gender factored BMI  22.7).  I would feel better about myself if I would move that window to to 158 - 160, but doing so causes me to be excessively preoccupied about everything I drink and eat, to the point it effects others.  But in a perfect world, 155lbs (age and gender factored BMI  21.6) would be the exact -  perfect weight I would want to be every single day for the rest of my life.

I was nearly at my perfect world weight of 155 at the end of my seven day inpatient BH-ICU stay due largely to the not so good "hospital chow".   However, when I was released I ballooned up to 164 almost instantly....kind of a buzz kill.

Anyway, please tell me more about your eating disorder>

Thanks

Mark

Thank you for those kind words.

Do you think I should fill out a victim impact statement and upload it to my claim?  Or was this a state document fir the rape?

If so, where would I get one electronically?

Thank you again, I still have four more weeks of Prolonged Exposure therapy.

I am writing my memoirs and would love it if you could help a shipmate out and look at it.

I've had a few challenges, perhaps the same as you. I relate them here to demonstrate that we can learn, overcome, and find purpose in life.

The stories can be harrowing to read; they were challenging to live. Remember that each story taught me something I would need once I found my purpose, and my purpose was and is HadIt.com Veterans.
