HISA Grant - Anyone had success?

My doc said she would put me in for a HISA grant for a walk in tub and a ramp or something for my back steps. I've got lympodema which is causing my legs to swell a lot and my knee is making it hard to get down the steps. I have no experience with this so any thoughts would be great. Currently my washer/dryer are in my basement so my niece does my laundry, but those steps out the back door are just getting tough. If I had the money I would finish the basement put in a bathroom, bedroom and office and move down there and move my niece and family into the upstairs. She takes care of me and it would be great if we could live in the same house. I've got to pay more down on my house before I can sell it. Sorry I digress, so what kind of success have you had with HISA and what should I be aware of.

This would be a good topic for the hadit podcast radio show  and hopefully veterans that have applied for this benefit will call in and let us know what all they did and what to expect.

Asknod applied for a greenhouse via ILP and was approved but I thik the VA is trying to reneg on the deal..I am not sure what is happening with his greenhouse?

If it was me I would not want this to turn into for a fight,  if a veteran qualifies for something like this HISA as Ms t bird Dr recommends  I doubt she would have a problem...meeting the VA guidelines for what she needs help with would and should be approved.

As broncovet mention a qualified VA Contractor would know the specifications of what she needs built.  the walk in tub and the ramps specifications from the VA.

 Note: There's different set guidlines and certification between the SAH Grant vs HISA

I don't think I would try and apply for aid and attendance. I tried that once and they wanted to assign me a fiduciary I had to get an attorney. I don't want that to happen again talk about stressful. 

I just hope I can get help with a tub or walk in shower and the back steps. Eventually the market will be better and I can sell my home and we can all move to a bigger place.

You should be able to get the walk-in tub/shower built and steps or walk way built to accommodate YOU.  with a HISA Grant   the letter from your Dr will help you almost 100% for the grant.

@buck52 you must have miss what I said about a grant for HISA with doctors approving the grant 

and still get the grant denied I have been there none that. It is help out there but you have too look for it.

Just because one doctor says he approve you doesn't mean its a grant. Its getting harder by the day "cut backs

and cut off "" is all they know. Keep fighting

Everyone is different and if you were denied  I don't know why, but a Dr opinion will help depending on how they write the letter.

I am sure Ms T knows the things she is up against ..I suggest she applies and see what they say...she should meet the qualifications just fine.

I don't think she needs to file for the A&A.

  Maybe through the ILP will help, but a grant is different thing than being approved for S.C.

What we need is to hear from veterans that have been approved for a HISA Grant  for walk-in shower/tubs  and STEPS/ walk ways and ramps , doors widened , things that will help a disabled veteran life a lot better and safer. 

I think member James Cripps has been approved for a HISA Grant for Auto?

He would be good to comment on this.

@porgee You are right the doctor's letter helps but is not a sure thing or so I've been told.
