Yea..I get mine at the local VAMC "Release of information" office.  If its only a couple pages, you can sign the form wait 5 minutes, and walk out the door with it.

This said, VA does not always release C and P exams to Vets "until its too late for us to do anything about a bad exam".  I was able to get mine, however.

When was the last time you visited the ROI office? I used to visit that office several years ago all of the time after I had a contractor C&P exam. The last time I went which was a couple of years ago, I was told that the contract C&P exams were sent to the VAMC as a courtesy but those exams are no longer sent to the VAMC.

If you happen to have a C&P exam at the VAMC, those results are put on hold for 30 days before the veteran can see them.

I recently went through this within the last thirty (30) days. Contracted C & P exams are considered VARO records and veterans that have contracted exams must request their exams from the Regional Office and not the VAMC. I even filled out the form and mailed it to the VAMC and they called and informed me that I had to request my exams from the regional office.  VAMC C & P exam records are simple, but those records can still be requested from the Release of Information Office in the hospital, but we are talking about records that the VARO controls and they will not release or make a copy for the veteran’s C & P exams until after they make their rating decision. My C & P exams were with the LHI Care, and they also refused to give me a copy and informed me to request a copy from the Regional Office.

I got my latest c&p exam from my attorney. If I remember correctly, he had to file a FOIA in order to get it. Now when I check my claim status on va.gov it says to contact the RO if you want a copy of your c&p exam.
