hypertension Hypertension
I retied from the army about two years ago and of course made a claim for disability. One of my claims was for hypertension. When I received the decision it was listed as not compensable because there was not a history shown in my record. The hypertension medicine was prescribed as a result of a visit to the emergency room where my pressure was measured at 166/122. The meds keep it down but barely (normally 132/86). I have appealed and sent in the copy of the emergency room record (again). I would hate to think I need to come off my meds to show that my blood pressure is high.Anyone have any suggestions?

Denied Rating For Upper Extremity
Greetings After a long wait (since 30 Nov 2004), I received a 10% rating for each leg/foot numbness problem but nothing for my left arm/hand...here are the results (short version): Lower Extremity: Service connection for right and left lower extremity neuropathy with decreased sensation as secondary to the service-connected disability of low back pain with mild degenerative changes. The decision is based on information obtained from my VA examination in which examiner opined the neuropathy of the feet and legs is due to degenerative joint disease, foraminal stenosis with secondary radiculopathy. An evaluation of 10 percent is assigned for incomplete paralysys below …

Question
I am really confused now as to how the process works from time of receipt of claim to award letter. Exactly where is the Rating Board in the process? Is there someone on here that knows the actual process steps and in which sequence they fall up to the award notice? What is the difference between Rating Board and Rating Specialists? What I am looking for is the numbered steps such as (1) Development Team, (2) Adjudication, (3) Rating Board, etc. This would be great if someone knows the actual sequence and what the functions of each team and the impact on the claim. Thanks, RockyA

New Claims/request For Increase In Compensation
I retired in 2004 and in November of that year received a 50% total disability compensation. As part of the award, I was granted 10% for a knee and a noncompensatory award for my ankle and foot on the same leg. I have since had further problems with all three. On two occasions, I reported the issue to the VA clinic to which I am assigned and on one occasion to my private physician. I will be going back to my private physician on Tuesday, and expect that he will finally order an MRI for my knee and hopefully the ankle and foot as well. I suspect that all three issues are more serious that originally diagnosed by the VA and will be submitting a request for a raise in compen…

Sleep Apnea And Asthma Combined
Greetings I may have ask this question once before but here it is again. Can asthma and sleep apnea be combined as one single rated service connected disability? I was first rated at 30 % for asthma. Later when the VA approved my sleep apnea claim, both conditions were combined and rated at 50%. After nearly one year of filing the NOD (both aliments should be rated separately), I got a denied decision again and statement of the case (SOC) from the VA. What should I do...should I complete the SOC or just leave it alone. What say you???? Best Regards Chiefhouse
