  1. Congratulations Oiler!!!

Be sure and check out all of your state benefits and anything else you will have coming to you.

As best you can relax, and take a deep breath and enjoy yourself as much as possible.

All the best to you and your family!!

  2. I agree with the above that the "Letters", are not always up to date.

I have had four claims and when the claims showed "complete", then my letters always were updated and reflected the new award. I am sure this is not always true, but in my case that is what happened.

The other thing you can check, is when your claim shows "Complete", then check your medical records because your current "service connected rating" is reflected in your VA medical records.

All the best to you and your family!!

  3. Last year I received an 70% PTSD rating and was not working. That rating was given on March 11, 2014. I filed for an increase and IU claim on March 23, 2014.

It took them 31 days to deny increase, but award TDIU P&T.

I am assuming you don't work and if you don't then file for increase and IU at the same time. Unless they missed something and should have rated you 100% ptsd, then they will deny increase, but if you are NOT working and have not worked because of your PTSD, then they will most likely approve the IU and pay you at the 100% rate.

The reason I chose this route was because I felt a new claim would get decided quicker and it did, but if for some reason it doesn't then you can still NOD.

    JMHO.....

All the best!! Congratulations on your 70% rating!!

  4. mttib:

You must be unemployed to get IU. So it is good for IU. Don't wait....file for IU ASAP. You are already in treatment and I just finished "Prolonged exposure therapy" and there is nothing easy about this therapy and not everyone is able to go through it. For me we started in on telling my "stressor", story about the third visit and for me, after the second time I recounted the story it was getting harder and harder to put a coherent sentence together and when I was finished that first time I literally could not talk. I was totally numb. Over time it gets easier and you will begin to remember more details each time you tell your story. It is worth it, but it is VERY INTENSE. I wish you the best with it.

Also, I must ask are you doing all of this treatment with the V.A? If so, then that will make it easier in the sense you are getting VA treatment and it will be a matter of record. Also, have you been diagnosed officially with PTSD, MDD by the VA?

I can't emphasize enough.....file for IU as soon as you can if not immediately and be sure to include the information that you have not worked since your Military discharge. I am leaving a lot out because I don't want to overwhelm you. There are some good Veterans on this site that are much more knowledgeable than me and they will be more than happy to advise and fill in the gaps.

If you would like to talk then message me through this site and I would be more than happy to talk to you.

All the best to you and your family!! Take care!!

  5. Based on what your C&P results are, your PTSD is well within the 100% range. Unless there is something on the notes that indicate something totally different then I think that is what you will get. With the V.A. though anything is possible and if you get less than 100% I would do a NOD on the PTSD.

My other comment is though, when this current claim is completed, which sounds like it will be soon. Even if your husband receives a 100% rating, apply for an increase in his IHD rating. 30% IHD when your husband has had 3 heart attacks is too low. He should be at a minimum 60% IHD. Has your husband had stents? If your husband gets 100% based on PTSD and the IHD is increased to 60% then that will give you more money and a whole different level of benefits. Your husbands 30% IHD is toooooo low.

Others on this site, can give you a better idea what the difference in benefits at 160% level, but there is a big difference in money and SMC's that you would qualify for.

All the best to you and your husband. I thank you for his and your service!!

  6. I agree with Ketchup56....don't let them feed you B.S. when I was awarded TDIU, the patient services clerk told me to go straight to the Dental Clinic and make an appointment. I went and had no trouble getting appointment. Now I am on regular 6 month schedule for the dental clinic.

    All the best....

  7. Deficienies in most areas is at the 70% level. They could always make it for 50% I guess, but I see you getting 70% minimum. If you don't, file a NOD. FYI: I received a 70% PTSD rating while I was working.

Also, if you get the 70% rating and you are not working then I would file for IU as soon as you get your retro and BBE. Again FYI: I received my 70% PTSD rating on March 11, 2014. On March 23, 2014 I filed new claim for an Increase and IU. It took 31 days to award me TDIU and was awarded total and permanent as well. I am rated 80%, but TDIU or IU pays at 100% rate.

Obviously not all RO work so quickly, but again my advice is if you get the 70% then by all means file for the IU ASAP!!

All the best to you and your family!!

Just to be clear...when awarded 70% PTSD rating I was working. Several days later I lost my job and then I filed for the increase/IU on March 23, 2014. Also if you file for IU there is an past employer form that needs to be filled out. I don't remember the form number but it is available on the VA website. Hand carry the form to former employers Human resource dept and have them fill it out. Some will do it on the spot while others take a couple of days. It is a short form. When you send in new claim for increase/IU then include those forms. It will give them everything they need to approve the IU and save you about 2 months of wait time on the claim. OK....I'm done!!

  8. Just a thought.....if your claim is complete and your summary of benefits is updated with your new rating as you indicated, then you might try calling the 800 number and they should be able to tell you what your retro amount is and when it was dated for. The only reason I say that is because on my first claim I called and they gave me that information, so I knew what I was getting before I got it. While you are on the phone with them be sure and give them your current banking info so it can be direct deposited. If you have already done that, then no worries.

calling them is worth a shot. It worked for me and by finding out sooner rather then later..you won't think about it so much!!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! Thank you for your service and all the best to you and your family!!

    Congratulations!!
