  1. Tamara, I have a SSI claim pending. If you continue your notice of disagreement or appeal to SSI, would that not mean that if passed the law would apply to all pending SSI claims as I read it in the last paragraph of the bill? Maybe that would assist us both.
  2. P.S. I heard or read that there may be a bill in congress to attach 100% and/or TDIU to social security, allowing social security to be automatically granted with VA 100% or TDIU. If anyone heard of this, please let me know.
  3. I agree with Pete. I would Contact an attorney who specializes in Social Security cases. Also check the internet for such businesses as Allsup that are very successful in winning claims. Remember, you will have to pay a percentage of the award to the attorney or business if you win, but they take care of all the paper work etc for you. A lot less grief. I was advised I'd be turned down twice. I have been turned down once so far, but am waiting on second review. then the case goes to a judge, so I'm told. Take care of yourself and good luck. I was less stressed by turning it over to someone else. TDIU was stressful enough!!
  4. A word of caution. The VA missed my prostate cancer, because they believed the numbers were "too low" and wouldn't do a biopsy even though I had a lengthy prosate problem history. I went to my private urologist, who suggested a biopsy, just to be sure. Two weeks later my private urologist called me in and made the announcement. I had all treatment through the private urologist, but filed VA claim right away. Also the VA in this area seems to have only one treatment- implant seeds. I was young enough (54) to have the surgery to remove the prostate as it was encapsulated. Read and research treatments before deciding which treatment you want.
  5. I think America is getting the "real picture" of VA medicine. They broke their arm patting themselves on the back and now the truth is coming out. I had to confront my PC care VA doc to finally straighten out their prescription snafus.
  6. Special attention Pete. I wrote last month about the problem renewing and getting my pain Methadone in a timely manner in the mail. After another visit to the doc, she admitted it was her fault. Her remedy-she precribed a double dose for each month, so I won't run out. Go figure.
  7. In March 2007, the VA sent me to Portland Oregon for a c&p exam. As a result of the exam the doctor found more problems. She also made recomendations as to medicine change etc (she's a specialist). I kept waiting for my pcp to make the changes and/or call me in for consultation, but after 3 months, no results. I made an appointment with my pc and carried a copy of the Portland doctors c&p exam. My pcp stated the c&p exam is not in my records. This is the second time this has happened to me. The c&p was very important because if the medicine change didn't work, the removal of my bladder is possible. I was told that the c&p doc can't precribe meds etc-that their only purpose is do an "exam". The Portland doctor also suggested I return to see her every 6 months for an implant adjustment, as Portland has the equipment and expertise to do this. My pcp hospital is Spokane Washington. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Also the VAMC has stated they have no way to put private doc's diagnosis and notes into their "records". The VA brags about having the best record keeping process in the nation, but what good is it if they don't get ALL your records entered? Comments please.

    Curios ?

    100% P&T TDIU, April 2007.
  9. The bummer on my meds. I stated in an earlier post that Spokane VA Fedexed my meds to me. Now for the kicker. Did you all know all fedex express mail orders (at least in this area) get flow to Memphis for "processing", flown back to the nearest city with an airport then forwarded by ground to the addressee? How it worked: Spokane VA and Fedex promised over night delivery of the meds. They were shipped by Spokane Washington VA on the 10th of May, flown to Memphis for "processing", then returned to Spokane too late for over night delivery to me. The real kicker- my home is in Coeur d'Alene Idaho is only 30 miles from Spokane. I ended up having to drive to Spokane Fed ex and have them pull the meds off the truck and personally hand them to me. I told the guy it makes no sense to send a package hundreds of miles to Memphis, then return it to Spokane for 2nd day delivery. Lots of apologies etc. I asked if they then charged the VA for overnight delivery, when in fact it didn't happen and "of course". Obviously, Fedex is not always the answer either! :P

Click Here to select a Congressman by your Zip Code and send a message (link to "WriteRep", the Congressional site). Tip: Fax urgent letters instead of mailing them -- Congressional mail security screening can delay postal letters by 1-3 weeks. If you would like a reply, request it in the letter and include your street address. When writing to a Senator or Representative other than your own, you will not likely get a reply unless you make it clear why they should reply; for example, if you represent an organization or company which has members or does business in their district, that might help. Note: Many members automatically delete e-mail from outside their district, or may reject messages copied to other members. Every American has the right to contact any Congressmen they wish, because their votes affect the entire country. More Congressmen are using the "WriteRep" system where you must have a zip code from the district of the Congressman you want to write. Tip: Go to the Congressman's web site and get the zip code of one of their district offices, or get a zip code for any city. 12. P.S. The pharmacist called within 25 minutes and advised the refill was filled and being processed to Fed Ex.
  13. Attention Pete: I also stated I had problems with timely refill and delivery of my meds. About a month aga, I sent a second letter to the Spokane VA medical director and to my senator, Larry Craig about the problem. The last few days have presented the same problems. I called Sen. Craig's office and they called VA and guess what? Within 25 minutes, I had a call from the head pharmacist ( the pharmacy stated they never call patients) stating the hospital director had received a call from Sen. Craig's office and the director had told him to handle the matter. The pharmacist stated he would "Fed Ex" the prescription today so I would get it by tomorrow. He also stated he would retrieve the necessary paper work from the doctor. My wife had to pick me up off the floor. The pharmacist also said they would notify Sen. Craigs office when the meds ship. Recapping, what I did. First late refill, a letter to the VA hospital director which they will send to patient advocate who will send you some kind of excuse, but will not resolve the problem. Second time late refill, I sent letter to VA director and my senator's office. Third snafu, a call to the senator's office which seemed to accelerate movement at the VA hospital. The senator wanted written permission from the veteran before they contact VA. That way you have given them the ok to roll. Don't give up my friend!!!!!!
  14. Try getting Methadone by mail. It has to be renewed EACH month (as in a new prescription) and a hard copy of the prescription has to be received by the pharmacy. You can't follow the prescription on My Healthe Vet as it is a class II narcotic. Every month, the same hassle. The pharmacy blames the doc the doc blames the pharmacy. Need to get the meds a few days earlier? Forget it. They put you on a pain management program and then you can't get the meds on time. I filed complaint with medical director and sent copies of the letters to Senator larry Craig's office. I havent heard from him yet! The VA admits problems with mail refills, but doesn't seem to be in a hurry to fix them. Class II narcotics come shipped to you certified mail signature required.
  15. Same thing happened to me. I sent IRIS mails, and called Boise VA and explained the situation. I was told "don't worry about it, they'll contact you when they're ready". I asked about overpayment and was told it's the VA's problem. I wrote down the date, time and name of the va agent I spoke to. A certified letter, sent return receipt requested would also help cover you. About 9-11 months later they notified me of the c&p. I didn't have to pay any money back. To cya, document every phone call you've made and to whom you spoke and what they told you. That way, just in case-you're covered. You can only do so much. Good luck. If you want to know about the c&p let me know.
  16. I recently received my DOD card for base privlidges. I am 100% TDIU P&T. Does this allow me to get medical or pharmacy benefits at military bases?
  17. Contratulations and deepest condolences.
  18. I claimed sc scarring. At the c&p, I stated the scar was "tender" instead of "painful". As a result, I was granted 0 percent. The decision stated if I had stated the scar was "painful", 10% would have been granted. Just my 2 cents worth.
  19. Congratulations. The application form for CHAMPVA is on line at their site. Be sure and send a copy of DD-214, marriage license and award letters. They advised me at least 90 days. After reading your posts, it sounds like you made a great achievement. The knowledge of the people on this site is very valuable and professional. Best of luck, take a breather!
  20. p.s. I applied for CHAMPVA and was told it takes at least 90 days. You also have to submit a copy of your award letter. they also say a copy of marriage license and dd-214 will expedite the application.
  21. My experience: I was total 100% for almost a year no p&t. I couldn't even get a dental appointment as "you're only temporary and by the time you get a dental appointment, you will probably no longer be 100%". I haven't worked in a year and was finally awarded t&p. It was tough to survive. I didn't have health insurance for my wife. In our town, we have a health clinic that sees you based on ability to pay- sometimes no charges. They also have dental service. You can use this service for dental also. Check around your county agencies (ie health department, social services etc). My wife received good care at these clinics. They also offered referrals to specialists. I don't know the reason why va doesn't give temp 100% same benefits, other than the hassle to them to have to change paperwork etc if you become abled again. Also I think it is a perk as if you are permanent, your prognosis to ever get better is slim or marginal. Good luck and stay patient.
  22. ts, I actually believe the c&p doc's nexus and response to the VA put me over the top. I was flabbergasted when I read her exam notes. Especially when they ordered me to Portland Oregon for the c&p. I'm 30 miles form Spokane Washington and 440 miles from Portland. I was really angry about having to get to Portland, especially taking methadone and hydrocodone. I also had letters from fellow employees and the personnel director where I worked which were a great boost. I wish you luck and patience. Jon
  23. The white 9x12 envelope arrived yesterday. T&P TDIU from date requested! It only took Boise 359 days to determine. All evidence and letters from friends, family and doctors were cited in determination. It can happen. Patience, persistence and reading everyone's post on this site. Just reading the postings here by you all gave me insight as to how to prove and present my claim. Thanks for the help.
  24. Percocet is a class 2 controlled drug and the VA makes you call in to reorder class 2 drugs each month. You can then either pick them up at your VA pharmacy and sign for them or have them sent certified mail (which you must also sign for). May I suggest that when you order, ask when they anticipate sending them and call back a few days before the ship date and ask the pharmacist if they have been shipped. You can then anticipate 1-2 days to arrive. I have had problems with calling in refills where the pharmacist has dropped the ball and not entered the request to renew. That will slow everything up and create frustration for you. The VA tells me when I call the pharmacy for a refill, they call the doctor for authorization and can't ship out meds until they receive a "hard copy" from the doctor. You see the potential for error in this process.
  25. I, too have been on hydrocodone for over 4 yeard for urological/post cancer surgery issues. Last month, the VA put me on Methadone 10mg twice a day with hydrocodone (up to 6 a day) for break through pain. The methadone has worked well, and I have been able to cut back on the hydrocodone.
