  1. I am trying to get my Primary Care Doc at the VA to give me a referral for an IMO. If I can get him to do it and it is approved the VA will pay for my IMO! Has anyone ever heard of this? Just wandering if it will actually work??

From my experience I couldn't get my VA Primary Care Doctor to write said letter. He told me that the medical director has tied the PC Dr's from letter such a letter for veterans in that clinic. This is what I was told by my outgoing PC doctor that I was seeing on a regular basis which left shortly thereafter.

It took a letter from VRE stating that I was unable to work anymore because of my SC conditions. Once that happened, TDIU was almost automatic. Now bear in mind that this was with my case only! So you never know, you might want to see if you can be screened by VRE and see if they concur with you being unemployable because of your SC conditions.

    Good Luck!

  2. IMO, I would request another doctor ASAP. Seems that doctor has a hidden agenda, and I feel for you brother, I really do!

Get an MRI done as soon as you can. Request one thru your Primary Care doctor, x-rays alone will not show what is really going on with your back and your secondary issues related to your back.

Good Luck and DON'T GIVE UP, that is exactly what they want you to do!

  3. One thing about fusions is that you may still have pain even if the fusion is good. Do you have severe pain? Do you have numbness in legs? Not easy to work if you have those conditions. What kinds of pain meds are you on? If you take strong narcotic meds it is hard to work while in a narcotic daze. That is a factor in being IU. Drug side effects are valid reason for helping an IU claim.

Great points about the fusion John999! Also the point about being on a serious painkiller! Excellent info!

  4. I have sat back and watched my kids actually watch other people play and interact with their own kids and then look at me.

I know that feeling all to well!

As far as the fusion goes for me, I'm going to hang on and see what happens!

You do know that once you have a fusion, that the other discs above the fusion will start developing DJD or DDD in those areas. Just something to be mindful of, if I were you!

    Good Luck again!

  5. MRI showed 3 level Degenartive disc disease (for which I am SC) and Herniated disc. it stated his opinion that I am not able to seek gainful employment due to SC back condition. Surgeon did state in his letter surgery will be needed to stabilize back with a 3 level lumbar fushion and decompression.

I think we have the same problem. They want to do a back fusion on myself as well. But I don't want to have it done as of yet because of my age, early 40's! Maybe in due time, but I don't know!

Anyway, IMO, I think that letter from the Neuro will help if not win your claim for IU!

    Good Luck!

  6. I TOTALLY agree with Philip Rogers! It's his fault and he can't blame no one but himself! With that being said, I would pay back the money and chalk it up as a lesson learn.

  7. Sadly to say, I think you need to wait to see what VA decision will be. If your highest rating is for hypertensive heart disease, I think a letter from your heart doctor stating that you cannot work would greatly help your claim for IU. Since you already have non-service connected PTSD, I am not sure how VA would look at a claim for chronic pain syndrome/depression. You would need a psychiatrist to say that your chronic pain/depression symptoms are predominant over your non-service connected PTSD. To award your claim for IU, VA still will need something in your records that say you are unable to work or unemployable due to your service connected conditions. I am not trying to be negative, I do not know what is in your C-File but this is just my opinion. I think "normally" when a veteran files for IU, VA request a C & P exam and ask the doctors' opinion if the veteran is capable of working or not and to give a medical rationale.

If I am off others will chime in.

    Hope the best.

I agree with Pete992 and John999! IMO, I think you may need to get evaluation by an VRE counselor so VA can see that you are not employable due to SC! A good VRE counselor could make the differences in getting IU!

    Good Luck!

  8. I was denied ssdi at 70% and did not appeal, Now I am tdiu, so I reaplied for ssdi, at 100% tdiu, will social securtity dissability take that under consideration?

As far as my lawyer has told me, yes! But she wanted me to get the VRE counselors' letter stating that I was unemployable! That letter is what decided my claim for TDIU! I'm currently awaiting on said letter myself to turn over to my lawyer for my case against SSD! I've been denied twice at 70%, but now at 100%. I'm currently waiting to see the judge!

Both of us should be a "shoe-in" for SSD!

    Good Luck

  9. A few years before my husband and I were married he went through the voc rehab ILP program for the first time, not really knowing what it was, and he got given a computer which was great for him to keep up with the kids. However, as he is gettin golder his mobility is getting a little harder to handle so not knowing much about the ILP we sent in another application to see if he could receive some help in the mobility department.

Well after a couple of very annoying VA staff and some cold hard facts, we have found a brilliant Voc Rehab staff member who has overturned his rehabilitated status which allows him back into the program!!!!! Still waiting on his disability claim that is turning into a nightmare, but I didn't want to forget to mention that even when things are turning to sh*t there is still good people in the VA and even small victories like ours today really do help in the long run.

I like that saying going around, "Never give up", anyone seen that pic of the frog going down the pelicans mouth????? My husband was sitting around one night when the guy drew that up in the Phoenix VA hospital way back when, so It's kind of like our family motto :-)

I had an ILS come to my house, I wasn't sure either. But once the counselor seen that I was unemployable, he gladly wrote that in a memorandum with was place in my claim for TDIU!

The VRE Counselor letter is Very important in order to get back in to the program plus it will help in the future for a TDIU claim.

  10. Hi all, I've browsed the forum over the past few weeks looking for some guidance through the VA Healthcare and decided it was time to finally join up. Looks like there's lots of useful information here, hopefully I can add to it at some point.

Welcome to Hadit.com! You found the right place and the right people to help you with anything dealing with the VA.

Although, I'm relatively new here. I've been helped more than I've helped. But maybe in the near future I can help someone with something that I've experienced!

    KNOWLEDGE IS KING!

  11. It's a great day for me today. Have been out of town the last week so I checked my bank acct. to see how good of a time my family had on vacation and there was alot more money in there than there should have been. Saw a deposit from VA Benefits. I called my DAV rep at 9:00am to see what it was faor and he told me it was for granting of 100 TDIU retro to 09/01/2009! The "Brown" envelope came today explaining everything. I just applied in mid Dec 2009. The DAV in Winston Salem, North Carolina has been great!!! If all SO'S were this good we would have less backlog.

I could not have accomplished this had it not been for all the help at Hadit! You people are awesome!!!. You DO make a difference in the lives of deserving Vets. You provide the best advice available, but most importantly you give hope to so many, and a place for them to start in the process to get there benefits. I hope the day comes soon that all deserving Vets get what they're due. I will continue to provide any advice I can to Vets through Hadit as long as they let me.

Remember, "Don't give up, get educated". The more you know the faster you cut thru the red tape!

    later,

    Blackbird

    Congrats!
