  1. I have used the VA opiate program. This was OK as long as you had no changes needed in your scripts. They would mail me the dope every month. As time progressed the drugs became less effective as is the usual case with narcotic pain meds. My PCP referred me to the ambulatory pain clinic for adjustment. Now I have to drag myself into the VAMC once a month and wait for an hour to see a different doctor each time. I have to wait around for the piss test. Then if I want my pain meds right away I have to wait at the VA for two hours to get the script. I spend the whole day for one script. This sucks! I pity anyone with chronic pain problems that relies on the VA. I think it is better to somehow just suffer the pain than to be on this hamster wheel. Better to just tie a block of concrete around your neck and jump into the nearest lake than be treated like a dope fiend.

Great post! Always enjoy reading your post(s) John! God Bless!

  2. Nobody at the VA has the stones to prescribe anything for pain for more

    than one month anyway.

I think this must be your PCP, because my PCP does 6 refills for Hydro 10's (180 per month)......with a 3 month check-up in-between!

I really hope you have better luck finding some kind of pain relief .......God Bless!

  3. I was just recently granted P&T, and was wondering does CHAMPVA provide dental as well as medical for spouses and dependents?

When I was granted P&T, I asked the same question and quickly found out that there is NO dental for dependents! We looked into getting Delta Dental, but they want 1 YEAR with them before they start covering dental costs! 90 dollars a month is what they want to charge my family!

We are still debating it, but as of right now, I just shelled out 4k for my wife teeth not more than 3 weeks ago.

    Good Luck!

  4. Have you tried having a VRE counselor write a statement stating you are unemployable? Have you gone through VRE, if so, have you had an ILS assessment of your home from a VRE counselor? This would help your claim, IMHO, big time!

I was denied IU but once I had this statement from VRE stating that I was unemployable due to my SC condition, I was granted within a week. Literally, I read the denial on a Friday, called my VRE counselor that same day (in which he just left my house on the day of the denial), he wrote said letter, by the next Wednesday, he called and told me that I was granted IU! So for me it took said letter to be granted TDIU!

  5. He was in an accident and suffered a severe compound fracture, and spent several months in the hospital going through several surgeries to repair his leg. He wound up with an intramedulliary rod with internal fixtures in his right tibia (a rod with screws, in case I didn't get the medical jargon right, lol). He was medically discharged and initially rated at 10% service connected disability.

This is EXACTLY my condition in my right lower leg (30% SC'd)! Tibia/Fib fracture requiring IM nailing in July 1999! I'm VERY surprise that they didn't diagnose arthritis at the fracture sight and possible in the right knee along with the ankle.

I can't understand why they would elect to remove the IM nailing. I'm SHOCKED, that procedure was even done!

  6. Cliff Notes version:

I was denied SSDI in September (first time)(70% SC at the time), then appealed in October (denied again).......finally got an MRI from VA in December. I applied for TDIU in September of last year......had C&P in February for the increase. In March, had an ILS done, was granted upgrades to my home. The ILS (VRE) counselor wrote a letter stating that I was unemployable. Then a week later I was granted TDIU, with an increased to 80% SC!

My attorney submitted all of the new info to SSDI for an on the record decision or a hearing date. Hope you can understand that!

I have NO NSC! All conditions are SC'd! I think my age (41) may have a lot to do with the denials.

  7. It took an MRI to show what the x-rays would not for me and a few others here. Finally after ten years of dealing with the VA, I got my PCP to finally order an MRI on my back last December! Then BAM, my condition (DDD of the lumbar spine) was clearly shown via the MRI verses the x-rays just as Vync spoke of! Great info Vync!

With the MRI, I could clearly show my condition to the VA.......thus helping me with my claim for an increase/TDIU. Hang in there!

    Good Luck!

  8. Hello all,

I am new to both this forum and the VA process. I have been out of the Army since October, 1995, and after many years of "driving on through the pain" I simply cannot take any more. So, I have decided to apply for my benefits. As a result of this decision, I have been reading everything I can find on the VA, which has really discouraged me. I never signed up for my Medical Benefits because I didn't feel that I was as entitled to them as other, more seriously injured Vets were, and did not want to further clog the system for them. Furthermore, I have always been a bit embarrassed about my own injury, since it is not "action" related. I incurred a back injury while stationed at Fort Hood. I do not know if the injury was due to the heavy lifting required by my job as an ammo humper (55B), or from doing PT. However, one morning after PT, my back and leg were hurting bad enough for me to go to sick call. The doc told me that I was "too young" to have back problems, and that I just strained a muscle. I was 23-24 at the time. I was given a light duty profile for a few days and told to "Drive through the pain". So, I did. Now, I can hardly get out of bed some days. I found out a couple of years ago that I am completely missing the disc between my L4-L5 vertebrae, and that it is an "old" injury. I also have DDD, and it is getting worse. I continued to put off going to the VA out of embarrassment, until now. I am planning to go this Tuesday and talk to someone at the RO in Little Rock. I am seriously hoping that the process is not as much of a nightmare as I have been led to believe.

Anyway, I would like to say thanks to those on this site who have provided so much information. I have learned a lot in the past few days. I hope to be able to contribute some bit of goodness as I go through this process, as well.

Shoot me a Private Message, as I can steer you to the correct people at Little Rock VRO!

    I live outside Heber Springs!!!

    Good Luck!

  9. Will the VA make me go through another C&P exam? Since my TBI evidence is pretty cut and dry and im not asking for an increase in my PTSD. I dont see why they would need me to go to another c&p exam.

Sounds like you have a very STRONG case for TDIU! Yes, you will have to go to another C&P exam because filing for TDIU is actually filing for an increase!

Good Luck with everything....hang in there....things will get better for you and your family!
