2008

Hello Brothers and Sisters,

We are now going into our 11th year, hard to believe but here we are!

Some Statistics from 2007 I think you might find interesting are attached to this post as a pdf.

I usually like to have a new look on the main site (http://www.hadit.com) each new year. However, the past few months have presented me with some challenges I was unable to overcome to work on the site.

So I will work on the site, however it will be sometime this year rather than the beginning of the year.

I have plans for more demonstration movies, perhaps some podcasts, more content, better navigation and so on.

Thank you Brothers and Sisters for hanging in there with me.

I am writing my memoirs and would love it if you could help a shipmate out and look at it.

I've had a few challenges, perhaps the same as you. I relate them here to demonstrate that we can learn, overcome, and find purpose in life.

The stories can be harrowing to read; they were challenging to live. Remember that each story taught me something I would need once I found my purpose, and my purpose was and is HadIt.com Veterans.

Hello everyone and Happy New Year...... I just wanted to say how thankful I am for this site. To T-Bird and Berta and Stretch,Pete,Mike Harris,Wings,Josephine,Bob,Vike,Flave,Ricky and so many more ,please forgive me for not remembering everyone. I started here with my claim in this year(FEB07)though I had started getting sick 6-7 years ago. The VA did not offer to figure anything out. It was OTHER VETS who had to do it on their own and with the HELP of those VETS I was able to find a starting point and way to try and put some since to this thing we call the VA. I couldn't agree more with T-Bird about the VSO situation .....it is terrible. For every VSO that is really knowledgeable and really has something to offer there are another 10 that really maybe do not have the skills, and knowhow to be able to help their Vet to conqueor the VA legal minefield. PLEASE realize that I am not being critical of any VSO as I am thrilled to see someone even step forward to say I "wanna go at the wire" and at least offer the DESIRE to TRY and help. It is like all of us know or have personal experience with VSO's, some good , some not , but all trying I think. Unfortuneately not every VSO can be a Perry Mason. I have already been thru several VSO's with the DAV group...they are overworked and just too few. I now have a very fine man(VVOA) that is helping me and he has said that I am one of his few vets that really has his records , documents and evidence all in a line and does his research.

Well thats nice to hear but please understand that it was a GROUP effort for me to be able to be where I am. This GROUP effort was from many of you here at HADIT. I still have a huge battle ahead of me as many here at HADIT do, and I will be honest, I have considered at times to give up because it seems so helpless and personally I have had more days when these diseases keep me in bed or in the hospital and I just get tired. If it wasn't for the precious people here and there DESIRE and LOVE and DEDICATION and ENCOURAGEMENT to others , I would not still be here at this site or wanting to fight the VA. Funny thing how this works. That as each of us becomes aware of the need of others around us then we start to try and be a blessing to some other vet that is hurting and lost in the VA jungle and then someone else is pulled to safety and helped. I see that here and have had that kind of help. Its like T-Bird said , "brothers and sister", and it says it all on the opening banner that "noone is left behind. I am sorry to ramble on and maybe not say exactly what I want to or sometimes I am not clear about my thoughts but I have had so much help here and I just want to thank everyone so much because it did help me and I want to help others. BERTA,,,, thank you for your extra expertice and help in private emails. You have been a blessing and have helped keep me from making some wrong moves concerning my claim even when my previous VSO thought he was right. Once again Happy New Year and THANK YOU all. GOD BLESS ...CC.

you are not being censored at this time, as you can see from your post below and i've explained your status as group a in a previous post.

Yep, seems like dealing-out punishment is the answer for telling how it is, as a personal opinion, freedom of speech denial. Thus, I have again been reduced to GROUP A on hadit.com. Seems a bit one-sided. I did NOTHING to deserve such...... must be a personality conflict. One should be able to speak his/her own mind without being censored by the head Boss. What happened to our democratic processes ?!?! :D

Oh.... but, yes you did censor me. As a "GROUP A" vet, I cannot edit my own posts or delete my own posts. Is that not a form of censorship/punishment? Hmm ??? :D

editing your own posts and deleting your own posts is a privilege not a right, this is the decision i have made, accept it or find another board or start your own site. let this go and post as you will, continue it and you will be censored.

Dear 1968 Nam vet, I found my way to Hadit in the 1998. Been a member now for 9 years.

I can tell you that I used to argue the censorship issue many, many times. What I learned, over time, and testing the patience of many all the while, is that a Leader looks for the best for all concerned. Individual rights are second to the mission of helping all vets. When you or I become self absorbed, it takes away from the many. A Leader like Tbird will make decisions s/he sees fit to protect the integrity of the whole.

We need to accept the fact that this is T-Bird's board. She created it. The members make it happen as to participation, but it is her show. There was great conflict about things being too loose when we had the disrupters attacking us. If we keep it civil it will work for all of us. We are bound to have disagreements. I got my IU claim in motion due to information I got here at Hadit. I got lots of information and some of it conflicted but I got there. I did not even know what IU was before Hadit. The thing to remember is that no one knows everything.

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.

They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.

      This is not true,

      Proof:

About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends.

Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken.

A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did.

I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
    • Welcome to hadit!

There are certain rules about community care reimbursement, and I have no idea if you met them or not.  Try reading this:

      https://www.va.gov/resources/getting-emergency-care-at-non-va-facilities/

However, (and I have no idea of knowing whether or not you would likely succeed) Im unsure of why you seem to be so adamant against getting an increase in disability compensation.

When I buy stuff, say at Kroger, or pay bills, I have never had anyone say, "Wait!  Is this money from disability compensation, or did you earn it working at a regular job?"  Not once.  Thus, if you did get an increase, likely you would have no trouble paying this with the increase compensation.

However, there are many false rumors out there that suggest if you apply for an increase, the VA will reduce your benefits instead.

That rumor is false but I do hear people tell Veterans that a lot.  There are strict rules VA has to reduce you and, NOT ONE of those rules have anything to do with applying for an increase.

Yes, the VA can reduce your benefits, but generally only when your condition has "actually improved" under ordinary conditions of life.

Unless you contacted the VA within 72 hours of your medical treatment, you may not be eligible for reimbursement, or at least that is how I read the link, I posted above. Here are SOME of the rules the VA must comply with in order to reduce your compensation benefits:

      https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/38/3.344

    • Good question.

Maybe I can clear it up.

The spouse is eligible for DIC if you die of a SC condition OR any condition if you are P and T for 10 years or more.  (my paraphrase).

      More here:

      Source:

      https://www.va.gov/disability/dependency-indemnity-compensation/

NOTE:   TO PROVE CAUSE OF DEATH WILL LIKELY REQUIRE AN AUTOPSY.  This means if you die of a SC condtion, your spouse would need to do an autopsy to prove cause of death to be from a SC condtiond.    If you were P and T for 10 full years, then the cause of death may not matter so much.
