Need To Talk With Your Service Officer?

Question

I have had very limited success in communicating with my SO all throughout my claims. I'm not a female and I don't have pretty legs like Southern Bell so that kind of strategy is out. I have one phone number to his office the drill is always the saem, he is with another veteran, or in a meeting, or in training or is off today. I'm always advised to call back later. Never get my name taken and told I will to ask him to return your call. No personal email address has been ever given to email him and ask him any question I might have.

Go to your Service organizations main website and look for contact us and send them a help request, be very polite and tactful. Tell them you have been attempting to communicate with your claims rep and are not having any success. In the email inform them that you are a member in good standings of the VVA, VFW, DAV, etc, what ever organization you belong to and ask them if they will please help you get in touch with your rep. It worked for me within just a few hours. It is worth a try if you have had or if you ever have a problem getting through to your SO to ask him a question.

I was completely playing along. I am not the least bit offended! I am not that sensitive! I love that people on here still joke and play around even with all the bad stuff going on. Feel free to make me the a*s of any joke as long as it is a funny one!

Danang, Try this. Go to see your Rep. Take a paper towell and a small bottle of windex into the office. Tell him who you are and you are going to clean his clock. Then break out the towels and windex and do so.

That will startle him just enough to listen to you.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

I don't know J. You know how jumpy those people are. When you enter their building, you have to empty you pockets and go through the medal detector and all that. They might have you cuffed before you could get out the windex, especially those who have read all my iris messages. You ever notice sometimes when you get frank in your iris communication, when the RO answers, it reads, "we will make this iris part of your claim file"?

You are right though, you use whatever charm you have to get people to listen to you give them the truth.

I forgot I was carrying and accidentally brought my weapon into the VARO. The people looking at the stuff were like, "DUDE, this little tiny lady has a gun, and it's LOADED, TOO!" I first was kind of humiliated because I NEVER forget that I'm carrying, but then, I thought, that's pretty funny the way they didn't expect me to be carrying, and the way they said, "AND IT'S LOADED, TOO!" I was lucky I didn't get arrested! :rolleyes:

My VSO is a little old lady type and I don't have to go thru a metal detector to get in to see her either. although, and I'm only speaking from my experience, I've had to wait in line to get in to see her and because she is so busy, it can sometimes take her a few days to a week, to return my call. She also has to take time away from her office to file claims, attend staff meetings, training sessions, attend AMVET club meetings, and oh yea, somewhere in there, she has her won life to live. Not to mention that my phone calls and claims are not the only ones she has on her agenda.

If your not satified with the service you are getting and you can not seem to resolve your issues with them, fire them and find someone else, I did and for the first time, I finally got someone who helped me win at least one claim, by making sure that all my paperwork was hand delivered by her to the VARO and that any and all paperwork was turned in and/or signed on time in the process.

As far as my looks, I won't win any beuty contests, but I might make a good extra in a movie that has Trolls in it. LoL

But I don't have pretty legs! :) just a sweet voice. Like a damsel in distress. I make them feel like the only person in the world who can help me, and I am so desperate for their help, even when I know regs better than they do! ;)

Belle, Your pretty tactics might work on the male population, but most warrior's (male and female) loathe feigning dumb and weak.

Personally, I think good ol' fashioned respect and sincerity is the best approach to getting another to assist you; and if that person does not respond to honesty, it's best to find someone who will. ~Wings

      Service Connection

      Frost v. Shulkin (2017)

      Effective Dates

      Martinez v. McDonough (2023)
      This case dealt with the denial of an earlier effective date for a total disability rating based on individual unemployability (TDIU) 2. It addressed issues around the validity of appeal withdrawals and the consideration of cognitive impairment in such decisions.

    • I met with a VSO today at my VA Hospital who was very knowledgeable and very helpful.  We decided I should submit a few new claims which we did.  He told me that he didn't need copies of my military records that showed my sick call notations related to any of the claims.  He said that the VA now has entire military medical record on file and would find the record(s) in their own file.  It seemed odd to me as my service dates back to  1981 and spans 34 years through my retirement in 2015.  It sure seemed to make more sense for me to give him copies of my military medical record pages that document the injuries as I'd already had them with me.  He didn't want my copies.  Anyone have any information on this.  Much thanks in advance.

      This has to be MEDICALLY Documented in your records:

      Current Diagnosis.   (No diagnosis, no Service Connection.)

      In-Service Event or Aggravation.
      Nexus (link- cause and effect- connection) or Doctor’s Statement close to: “The Veteran’s (current diagnosis) is at least as likely due to x Event in military service”

    • VA has gotten away with (mis) interpreting their  ambigious, , vague regulations, then enforcing them willy nilly never in Veterans favor.  

      They justify all this to congress by calling themselves a "pro claimant Veteran friendly organization" who grants the benefit of the doubt to Veterans.  

      This is not true, 

      Proof:  

          About 80-90 percent of Veterans are initially denied by VA, pushing us into a massive backlog of appeals, or worse, sending impoverished Veterans "to the homeless streets" because  when they cant work, they can not keep their home.  I was one of those Veterans who they denied for a bogus reason:  "Its been too long since military service".  This is bogus because its not one of the criteria for service connection, but simply made up by VA.  And, I was a homeless Vet, albeit a short time,  mostly due to the kindness of strangers and friends. 

          Hadit would not be necessary if, indeed, VA gave Veterans the benefit of the doubt, and processed our claims efficiently and paid us promptly.  The VA is broken. 

          A huge percentage (nearly 100 percent) of Veterans who do get 100 percent, do so only after lengthy appeals.  I have answered questions for thousands of Veterans, and can only name ONE person who got their benefits correct on the first Regional Office decision.  All of the rest of us pretty much had lengthy frustrating appeals, mostly having to appeal multiple multiple times like I did. 

          I wish I know how VA gets away with lying to congress about how "VA is a claimant friendly system, where the Veteran is given the benefit of the doubt".   Then how come so many Veterans are homeless, and how come 22 Veterans take their life each day?  Va likes to blame the Veterans, not their system.
