Champva Issues

I'm having a horrible time getting EOBs from CHAMPVA. They are horrid!!! I can't count the times they have caused me to be turned over to collection agencies for my son's medical bills!! All because of lack of EOBs.

Right now I'm missing no less than 5. I've called the doc's office and hospitals as well and they don't have them either...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. They have paid the claim...that isn't the problem, but there is the small problem of the "cost share". In CHAMPVA-land there is a code on all EOBs that all cost shares must be written off by the providers...but without the EOB; they don't believe it! (Even though it's on every one).

Can the VA do anything right???........................Uh.............No.

I am not thrilled with ChampVA as well. I get the EOB's but they are usually denials for some idiotic reason. BC/BS and my medicare pay right away, but always some hangup with my wife's ChampVA and they are secondary, yet they stall. They tried to claim my wife had two BC/BS policies that should have paid first. We had to prove to them she only had one policy. It burns my ass when they won't pay. I have family BC/BS from my days as a federal employee. I can call them anytime and get things fixed. With ChampVA you call and pray. I appealed one ChampVa denial. I never heard back from them. They are better than the rest of the VA but we will be keeping my BC/BS as expensive as it is. I am still trying to get Champ to pay $400 bucks for their tiny part of my wife's surgery.

i haven't had a problem with CHAMPVA paying any claims (it's the only insurance my kids have)...they do pay very slow sometimes and it really pisses off drs and hospitals.....but oh well, they can wait. it's mainly this crazy EOB mess.

I haven't had any problems with champva; in fact, this year, I submitted (via snail mail) $300 worth of receipts from a 6 month period of care --from a Naturopathic Doctor. My daughter uses "alternative medicine", and champva had no pproblems cutting me the check for reimbursement. I was pleasantly surprised. ~Wings

I have not posted in quite some time, but as I read this post, I wanted to reply. I have Champva and while they have been great to me, I am sure not everyone has experienced this. If you need to see your EOB, you can do that online now through the Champva website. In fact, you can also access your Medicare EOB's from their website as well. They are not available though to see until some action is taken on the claim you filed and that still does not mean you may not end up having to make a call to them. But if you know the bill has been paid, then you should be able to access the EOB showing that.
